Microsoft will unveil the next version of Windows on June 24th - What's next after Windows 10?

then Chrome OS, and now Edge OS (Win11)
Edge is just Chrome now anyway, so we've got Microgoog OS.

Having any web browser built that deeply into an OS is going to be a security disaster. Chrome OS works because Google can lock everything down from the firmware to the apps, but I'm assuming that won't be the case on Win11. Can't wait for the first guy to somehow get his Start menu infected with porn popups.

I think that’s why they hardlocked the taskbar and tried to kill OpenShell.

And really, for what purpose?

First there was Firefox OS, then Chrome OS, and now Edge OS

Microsoft hates the idea of people being fond of their old product I guess?
The classic start menu has never failed me, and not being able to install OpenShell on Windows 11 is an immediate fucking deal breaker.
OpenShell can be used on Win11, it's now a button you place over the regular start menu. Pretty ghetto, I know.
Maybe soon we'll get a full start/taskbar replacement, because at this point you might as well.

20 years, and they haven't learned anything from integrating IE/ActiveX to the desktop, and how much that sucked back then.
You think it 'sucked' to be able to put autoplaying shock site videos on people's desktops? Are we still on the Kiwifarms here?

Correct, LTSC will be around for a long time
The kind of support LTSC will be under will not be the support you imagine. Hardware support will be nonexistent after 2025 and as for games you can forget about it. It’s for machines that don’t need to be replaced frequently, not “tee hee I’m cheating M$ out of their telemetry” shizos like me.

Consider Linux at this point. Seriously.

I have to imagine at least one person won't consider it just because they'd have to abandon all of the batch scripts they've been using for years.
Refusing bash because it means abandoning your batch scripts is like refusing an auto because it means abandoning your spare wagon wheels.

I worry Apple will copy M$ and make a new Mac OS with insane system requirements. Along with Windows, this would push almost all to new hardware with some new crap that allows more centralized control by Big Tech.

Apparently it is Netflix and Amazon that are pushing the hardware DRM this time around. M$ doesn’t have a use for the security chip, but Netflix does.

So Netflix and Amazon have just decided to commit suicide, huh?

Because all you have to do is point at Steam to see how well people (not consoomers) take the news about DRM.

They haven't "decided to commit suicide". They want to push hardware DRM in order to clamp down on piracy. No joke. You cannot watch 4k Netflix on a linux for this reason.
Once they make it standard in 10 years or so, the idea is piracy is dead. Now, that's a big optimism rating right there, but for the moment 4k Netflix rips are rare. But they'll figure out something. Probably by jacking into the HDMI feed. Can't kill the Hydra, as always.

This. Man up and switch, or shut up and deal with it.
