Microsoft will unveil the next version of Windows on June 24th - What's next after Windows 10?

But what does “limited install” even mean? What isn’t installed?
Newer Updates that weren't included with the base install, which was a thing way back in Windows 7. It even searches for up-to-date drivers for your hardware.

This wasn't a thing in XP and below. If you did a fresh install of any of the older OS', you needed to have a handfull of driver discs that were made for specific PC's and Laptops. Only basic shit (like mouse, keyboard, display, cd-drive) were plug-and-play, and even those required better drivers to work to their full potential (especially the display drivers if you wanted a better resolution than the default "grandma's blind as a bat" resolution).

Although for all we know, the internet connection for Win 11 (and most likely 10) could also be sending other info about your computer to Microsoft in between the installation and updates.

Even if you disable all of these, there are more that are hardcoded in dnsapi.dll

We need an OS designed by a batch of literal schizophrenics who are just put in some kind of group mansion and allowed to do whatever crazy shit they like. It would be better than what we have now. Imagine a mansion full of Terry Davises all contributing to some thing.
Honestly even if no one ever uses it, it'd be a work of art. Collaborative schizo creations should be funded in all areas of expertise.

you know me as a very optimistic windows user, but I'm definitely NOT cool with that.

The average smartass will justify that as "backwards compatibility get a brane u morans" but having old GUI routines meant to run only when you load specific old software is not the same as having the native current everyday components of the OS using said old routines.

Windows NEEDS the old GUI routines to be boomer proof in the enterprise market, but make them invisible to normies unless necessary you fuckin pajeets in charge.

This is actually a perfect example of what it's like to search for workarounds and drivers for stuff that won't run on Windows 7 nowadays, and every result is a thread where the replies are "You need to upgrade to Windows 10 already" and the OP says "Yeah but I don't want to because (good reasons)" and then the replies are all REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

anyway, fuck yeah boi, i managed to completely skip windows 10 while it was current AUGH YEAH

Linux devs: "god why do GTK and KDE program UIs have to clash against each other so much"
Windows devs: watch me mfer
Lol Windows Explorer has at least 4 different styles of context menu by itself (at least in current LTSC) - right click on the folder (Immersive menu), right click on the text boxes (Classic menu), right click on the ribbon (Ribbon menu) and left click on the ">" in address bar.

Nobody wants trash MS news on their device.

My second PC is linux, and I'll be spending more time learning to configure all my software needs on it. Fuck MS.
They're not the same! They support long file names now.
Yet domain names are still limited to 15 characters, because 16 bit domains are the FuTuRe!!!

Win10 was so bad it made me use Manjaro and Win11 is such a disjointed macOS UI clone that it just makes me want an ARM macbook instead, very impressive MS you made me not buy a game pass

This. I run Win10 for gayming only (because Proton doesn't run all the games I want, and the latency sometimes annoys me beyond all hell).

Been using Arch for a few years now and fucking love it.

I would rather herd literal cats at the fish market.
I'm too normie for linux
Linux has been easier to install and use than windows for the last five years at least. Or did you fall for the "install gentoo" maymay?

Check 'em
