Minecraft

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
It must really get Microsoft's goat that a large percentage of their playerbase prefers to play old, modded versions of their game. That, or some execs's kid saw a cobblestone penis on a server and now said exec wants to sanitize the game completely.

I'm glad my account will be gone come semptember. This isn't the minecraft I grew up with anymore

Hot take but the game should have died half a decade ago at least. Minecraft is Wasted Potential: The Game and the sheer autism vortex of it prevents better alternatives from being made. I wish these lawyers and execs a very happy unemployment and I cannot wait for this genre to finally advance a bit.

If this doesn't kill it, keep trying boys. I'll be sitting here fucking around on modded 1.7.10 and 1.12.2 with a pirate launcher like I am every time I feel the desire to play virtual LEGOs.

This sounds a lot like the draconian Halo EULA regarding custom mods and such, would not be surprised if they try and clamp down just as hard.

I would post highlights but halowaypoint is so shit that its down because of internal server errors more than its up
EDIT: Apparently Halo Waypoint just doesn't even work on Firefox at all, and now that EULA page is missing. On Brave it works but I can't find the actual EULA page anymore, but I found a Q&A about it: https://www.halowaypoint.com/news/mccs-eula-the-faq

"Wasted potential" is fucking right. The main game is extremely boring but I used to play the shit out of super detailed CTM and City survival maps and had a complete riot.
The combat is complete shit. The mining is dull ...but it's all set up in such a way that gives an amazing framework for people to build off of.
I've not played another game with as many compelling custom maps. For me, all the exciting first person action RPG fun blows amazing games like Deus Ex out of the water. You haven't lived until you've built a shelter hideout in the middle of a stunningly designed dungeon filled with cool secrets and architecture.
Vech's Super Hardcore, From Ashes, From Flames, Cubes of Adventure, Sphere, Revenge of Mr Mayor, Vertoak City, Broville...
I'm not even getting into the amazing FTB maps that I've seen people playing. That takes shit to a whole other level.

I just realized, if they plan on taking down minecraft videos they "don't like", what does this mean for Team Avolotion's old content? I can't imagine Microsoft would like such family unfriendly griefing content to remain up, even if it is a piece of minecraft history. This really sucks.
There's a big archive on Archive.org and since they didn't accept the new EULA I don't think there's anything that M$ can do. Best to download anyway though.
I rewatched those a while back and it was like peering into an parallel world. I miss that world.

It's kinda written on the wall that they intend to keep clickbait MCtubers and trash the rest out. Even under the lens of clueless suits, I can't see them filter them out too considering how profitable they are to Microsoft marketing-wise.

Outside of that, I don't see how they could realistically manage to filter groomertubers and the rest successfully. MC videos are generally so over-edited that it'd be impossible for them to either accidentally fuck it up or not do it at all. If they do it though, well, You'd better find, download and treasure this AVO archive, because bru's reuploads and Storm's channel will both suddenly vanish the moment they will enforce this.

The creators of the Hypixel server are apparently making a similar game to Minecraft called Hytale. I have no idea if it'll be good or not but people are at least trying.

They got bought by Riot, which is fully owned by Tencent. The only other viable alternative is Vintage Story, but its survival focused and plays more like Terrafirmacraft. There is also Mineclone in Minetest, which is FOSS, but Minetest is still a janky half functional mess even after years. You would expect better pickings after a decade plus, but nope.

I finally got around to fully read the new EULA. Goddamn. Watching Minecraft go from Notch programming this in his basement between gooning sessions to this corpo shit live & direct feels surreal. It's like a 19th century metaphor or a children's tale about corporate greed or something.

I legit wonder what Notch thinks of this. Maybe he doesn't considering he's been beyond made for around a decade by now, but I'd be surprised if he didn't feel a thing over MS repeatedly taking a wrecking ball to his old project for several years in a row by now.

It's like the Lorax stripped of its environmentalist message NGL.

If you play singleplayer then you're immune but if you want to host a Minecraft server then:(

It's been like that for years IIRC. Though it just involves setting a flag to "1" instead of "0" in a config file. The funny thing is that's not actually enough to constitute having read and agreed to it, since you don't actually have to read it to find where to change the config to enable the server.
