The funniest part about last time was that whoever is in charge of that account didn't keep it that way for any political reason. They were just too lazy to change it back.
It wasn't just the Twitter account, it was both the Twitter and YouTube.

They did it late this year so they'll probably use that as an reason for why but if that is the case then it still makes it funny.

That's just for Bedrock edition. The game is always online there, as that is how they can prevent players from giving even their worlds vulgar names.

Java's singleplayer has always been offline. With the chat filter only extending to Realms (and even then you can turn that off).

In other news, new pre-release! As well as an article giving some more clarification on how this system works.

Completely done with this game at this point. I'm not someone who spams nigger in the chat or tells people to kill themselves. But I am someone who likes to talk shit to my friends in ways that would run afoul of the dangerhair definition of 'hate speech' that they're using here. This will just completely kill the vibe of any multiplayer server, even among personal friends.

I recall a while back playing with a bunch of irl friends on a Minecraft server. At first it was a few of us, then boyfriends and girlfriends got invited. Then family, and friends, then online friends. It was exponential growth, and just lots of fun. I vividly remember one young girl who joined who was extremely histrionic and dramatic, but was still kept on the server because the mentality of the admin was 'well if she causes trouble, it's my server and I can kick her out'. She flipped out over some people poking fun at one another in the chat (someone called someone else a 'fat fuck') and everyone gave her shit until she learned to mind her own business.

That environment, in this system, is just completely impossible. You could never let a person like that girl into the server, because the question in the back of your mind will always be 'is this person going to report one of my friends who I actually care about and want to play with and get them banned?' And she was only the most blatant case, you have to ask that about every single person who joins; there are a lot of socially brittle people out there. So you have two options. Either you censor yourself and can't have fun busting your friends' balls as you would talking to them in person, or you become extremely paranoid and only allow people who you can absolutely trust into that space. Both just introduce a vibe that kills any sort of carefree, fun environment. At this point, the server isn't yours anymore. There's always the possibility of some spiteful HR cunt moderator, lunatic tranny janny, or poorly trained apathetic pajeet looking over your shoulder and overriding your conception of what your server could be. I feel really bad for anyone who has a server that they've invested time and effort into with their friends - because unless every single player is a mincing shitlib, it's only a matter of time before the admins have to make that choice.

I wouldn't worry about that as in the same article this concern is addressed:

In their view, trash talking isn't an unfair ban. Anything that insults a person based on something they can't change is hate speech and the kind of conduct which this system is designed to ban. Doesn't change anything about how this changes the whole social dynamic of the game by giving every player the ability to snitch on people for completely legal speech that runs up against liberal sensibilities. The only thing that's up in the air is whether your complaint will be reviewed by an all-American liberal hall monitor or a poorly trained, barely fluent Indian.

'Hate speech is talk that is intended to insult, intimidate, or threaten an individual or group based on a trait or attribute of their identity, such as sexual orientation, religion, color, gender, or disability. These behaviors do not belong in Minecraft and will have the consequence of a temporary suspension or permanent ban depending on the severity and frequency.'

Their words. I used to work with a guy in a wheelchair with a great sense of humor, who gave as good as he got. I would have to treat him with pity and kid gloves to abide by this policy, which he would have hated. It's a complete, heavy-handed intrusion into normal social interactions by a bunch of awkward social retards.

But the report system does check for context. If your message got reported and it is shown that the person you're insulting is cool with it, then you'll be fine.

Or at least that's the idea.

Where will the people doing that be coming from? There are two classes of people in America on this issue, broadly speaking. There's the working class, who like to give each other shit and have a good-natured but rough idea of what a proper conversation is. Then there's the genteel white collar class, who percolate in this stilted, HR-moderated version of what a proper social setting is. This includes excruciating delicacy around many topics which the working class sees no problem joking about. These guidelines are written by someone of the latter persuasion, and I think it's ludicrous to even hope that they'll be hiring moderators who don't share their outlook on this. They'll either be hiring likeminded people to moderate, or hiring them to train a bunch of apathetic Indian tech workers.

Mojang claims to have team dedicated to reviewing any reports made and I'd like to imagine they'd be fair as the devs like the banter amongst themselves and the playerbase on social media. Although, we'll have to see the system in action as I'm sure nothing I can tell you won't alleviate your concerns.

Personally, I doubt this system will have any lasting impact on multiplayer. Mostly because the social interactions menu is already a pretty underused feature and the general consensus with the chat moderation system has been overwhelmingly negative.

Yes - a team that will almost certainly consist of outsourced workers from Mumbai. This is Microsoft, do you really think they're NOT going to outsource the moderation to somewhere in South Asia to save money? Anyone who's dealt with a call centre Pajeet knows how apathetic and generally useless they tend to be, do you really think they're going to care about what they're doing? They'll just be working to meet a quota, they don't actually care if any bans are reasonable or not.

You're giving people access to a feature that can be used to potentially permanently ban people you dislike from playing the game. It's obviously going to be abused to hell, especially on places like anarchy servers and factions servers. Now, any rivalry between two players or two factions could lead to one side filing masses of false reports for the other side to try and get them banned. Hell, hack client creators are already adding features to their clients to automatically mass-report players.

If people are already willing to get players they dislike doxxed or swatted over a children's block game, they'll 100% abuse this to it's maximum extent.

Keep in mind that the report system is only for the chat in java edition and it supposedly checks for context. Not to mention that whatever these kinds of people report would need to be incriminating enough to warrant a ban.

It may be optimistic for me to say this, but false flagging isn't going to be as problematic as you make it seem.

No. If @Providence was running a invite-only server, that likely means it's someone he knows personally, whether in person or online. Further, if he called him a "darkie" it's likely that he knows his race as well, and since they're friends, their race probably doesn't matter to each other, they just like flinging words at each other for funsies. Despite this, Mojang still saw fit to ban him regardless, and finger-wagged about how slurs are "never okay," so it appears they're going for a puritan zero-tolerance angle.

Yeah, neither my buddy nor I are white, he's Palestinian. He was chasing me setting fire to my building project, and we were laughing like the retarded faggots we are. He called me a twat, a thot, and a prairie nigger, but he censored nigger to like two letters with asterisks. He was not penalized. My retort, "Shut up, darkie", was the big deal to them.

It is such a shocking violation to realize every word you've exchanged, just having fun being assholes together, is being monitored. Feels dirty. We don't use the MC chat anymore. I hope there's backlash, but it's Microsoft. They are deeper in our assholes than anybody but Google. I don't have much hope.

It has changed the fun. After all these years. It stings, tbh. This was our gay 'tism hobby. Spoiled.

Also it means that chances are said data is being harvested and sold by Microsoft.
Nah, they'll keep their hands clean ostensibly while conveniently running the data through State Dept nodes. Microsoft glows too hard to make the mistake of being pinned on that shit.

Edit: and y'know, they'd already have been doing that. This is more like the Discord psyop, it's just about general chilling effect and hammering wrongthink out of em young.

My issue with this is that its a SERVICE wide ban, if you get banned on one server you are banned from EVERY server, not just that one. since it seems 1.19.1 got delayed without notice hopefully mojang is rethinking how this will work.

My suggestion of how to make the chat system better is simple, its a blacklist, if a player breaks mojang rules on a server that opted into mojangs moderation system, they are banned from every server that also opts into that system, but can still play on servers that dont. The fact this system can bar you from ALL online play is a ludicrous overstep and mojang deserves to get hate for it.

Mojang should've made a chatfilter which bans certain messages from appearing on the other players chat.

Your message contains the word gift, GIFT or commission?

Yeah those are put into the chat but Player FilthyKite, TeenTroonSquad and Penisfisch won't see your message.

They don't see it since they blocked those words but darkie can still be seen by them.

There already is a chat filter. But it's only used for realms.
