Watched the livestream. Here's the takeaways for anyone who didn't.
"Drops"

"Drops"
- Big annual updates are dead. They've been replaced with "drops," which are smaller updates that'll focus on one or two new features at a time.
- They said the new "drops" will release every several months. I'm guessing that means "quarterly."
- Two "drops" were announced - Bundles & Bravery and the Pale Forest. The latter is coming first, and it should get snapshot releases soon-ish.
- Hardcore mode is coming to Bedrock, bundles are coming to the base game. They'll be added in the same "drop."
- Bundles can be dyed different colors.
- That's it. The drop is just Hardcore mode and bundles, I think. Java players get the short end of the stick here.
- They shilled the movie for a bit, as expected.
- No sign of reversing course on the ugly hyper-realism aesthetic, but they're using a lot of practical effects, much more than I was expecting.
- They are pumping a lot of money into this, and they really want it to do well. They're filming in New Zealand, they've contracted Wētā FX to help with the SFX, and they hired some of the people that worked on the Peter Jackson LOTR movies too.
- Either they're actually banking on this movie doing Avengers numbers, or this is going to be the biggest fucking tax write-off in human history. I haven't decided which.
Cast
- Jason Momoa's character, Garrett, is supposed to be a Billy Mitchell parody, not a tranny. He was a pro arcade gamer in the 1980s, but he has arrested development and never moved on from that part of his life. They don't name Mitchell by name, of course, but it's very obvious that he's the basis for the character.
- The Jewish kid's character is named "Henry." His character is going through "a tough time in his life." Probably parents divorcing, if I had to guess? His character is supposed to represent modders, which I'm surprised Mojang allowed the writers to do.
- They didn't say anything about what the sassy black lady or the werewolf girl from Wednesday are doing in the movie, so I think they're banking on Momoa and Jack Black to be the box office draws.
- Speaking of,
Jack Black is really fucking fat, you guys

- Jack Black looked disgusting--nipples protruding--in his blue shirt before Jeb. Very very disrespectful.
- I don't know what else there is to say. You can see the picture. He looks really bad.
- Like, I get that he's never been exactly svelte, per se, but he's easily Tipster-size by now.
- Ech.
- Some IRL escape room-type facility they're opening in Texas.
- It's... whatever. Padding to fill time.
Villager News
- @Otterly will be happy to know that they commissioned the Villager News people to do a teaser animation for the new Creaking monster. I don't think they're working on the game or the movie in any capacity, but it was cute.
Ambience & Foliage
- The new biome is actually really unique. Definitely the most interesting thing Mojang has done with the game in a long time under Microsoft, probably since the Nether Update.
- There's no music in it, just some background ambience of wood creaking and things like that. It's spooky.
- The new trees are called "Pale Oak" trees. They have hanging moss hanging from them, like willow trees, which is supposed to reduce your visibility and make it harder to traverse. I think it adds a lot to the biome's aesthetics.
- The new wood set is white, which we already know from the leaks. Not much else to say there.
- There's also pale moss carpets, which are like regular moss carpets, but pale. I could see them looking really good in a Backrooms build.
The Creaking / Creaking Heart
- The new monster works like a Weeping Angel. It only moves when you're not looking at it, and it's invulnerable to damage.
- The only way to kill it is to break the Creaking Heart block it's linked to, which generates in the new trees.
- I don't think it drops anything once you do break it. The Creaking Heart block itself only drops if you mine it with a Silk Touch axe.
- If you're an asshole, you can sneak Creaking Hearts into people's bases so they have to deal with invincible tree monsters spawning in. Big potential for trolling here, but I can't see much of a use for singleplayer.
- And it's not a redstone component. I fucked up there. The piston in the leaks was just them pushing a log on top of the heart to activate it.
