Watched the livestream. Here's the takeaways for anyone who didn't.

"Drops"
  • Big annual updates are dead. They've been replaced with "drops," which are smaller updates that'll focus on one or two new features at a time.
  • They said the new "drops" will release every several months. I'm guessing that means "quarterly."
  • Two "drops" were announced - Bundles & Bravery and the Pale Forest. The latter is coming first, and it should get snapshot releases soon-ish.
Bundles & Bravery
  • Hardcore mode is coming to Bedrock, bundles are coming to the base game. They'll be added in the same "drop."
  • Bundles can be dyed different colors.
  • That's it. The drop is just Hardcore mode and bundles, I think. Java players get the short end of the stick here.
A Minecraft Movie
  • They shilled the movie for a bit, as expected.
  • No sign of reversing course on the ugly hyper-realism aesthetic, but they're using a lot of practical effects, much more than I was expecting.
  • They are pumping a lot of money into this, and they really want it to do well. They're filming in New Zealand, they've contracted Wētā FX to help with the SFX, and they hired some of the people that worked on the Peter Jackson LOTR movies too.
  • Either they're actually banking on this movie doing Avengers numbers, or this is going to be the biggest fucking tax write-off in human history. I haven't decided which.
Cast
  • Jason Momoa's character, Garrett, is supposed to be a Billy Mitchell parody, not a tranny. He was a pro arcade gamer in the 1980s, but he has arrested development and never moved on from that part of his life. They don't name Mitchell by name, of course, but it's very obvious that he's the basis for the character.
  • The Jewish kid's character is named "Henry." His character is going through "a tough time in his life." Probably parents divorcing, if I had to guess? His character is supposed to represent modders, which I'm surprised Mojang allowed the writers to do.
  • They didn't say anything about what the sassy black lady or the werewolf girl from Wednesday are doing in the movie, so I think they're banking on Momoa and Jack Black to be the box office draws.
  • Speaking of,
Jack Black is really fucking fat, you guys

disgusting fleshbeast.png
  • Jack Black looked disgusting--nipples protruding--in his blue shirt before Jeb. Very very disrespectful.
  • I don't know what else there is to say. You can see the picture. He looks really bad.
  • Like, I get that he's never been exactly svelte, per se, but he's easily Tipster-size by now.
  • Ech.
Villager Rescue Experience
  • Some IRL escape room-type facility they're opening in Texas.
  • It's... whatever. Padding to fill time.
Pale Forest
Villager News
  • @Otterly will be happy to know that they commissioned the Villager News people to do a teaser animation for the new Creaking monster. I don't think they're working on the game or the movie in any capacity, but it was cute.
Ambience & Foliage
  • The new biome is actually really unique. Definitely the most interesting thing Mojang has done with the game in a long time under Microsoft, probably since the Nether Update.
  • There's no music in it, just some background ambience of wood creaking and things like that. It's spooky.
  • The new trees are called "Pale Oak" trees. They have hanging moss hanging from them, like willow trees, which is supposed to reduce your visibility and make it harder to traverse. I think it adds a lot to the biome's aesthetics.
  • The new wood set is white, which we already know from the leaks. Not much else to say there.
  • There's also pale moss carpets, which are like regular moss carpets, but pale. I could see them looking really good in a Backrooms build.
The Creaking / Creaking Heart
  • The new monster works like a Weeping Angel. It only moves when you're not looking at it, and it's invulnerable to damage.
  • The only way to kill it is to break the Creaking Heart block it's linked to, which generates in the new trees.
  • I don't think it drops anything once you do break it. The Creaking Heart block itself only drops if you mine it with a Silk Touch axe.
  • If you're an asshole, you can sneak Creaking Hearts into people's bases so they have to deal with invincible tree monsters spawning in. Big potential for trolling here, but I can't see much of a use for singleplayer.
  • And it's not a redstone component. I fucked up there. The piston in the leaks was just them pushing a log on top of the heart to activate it.
That's it, I think. Let me know if I forgot anything.

These fucking niggerlizards are not tameable. Whoever the smartass on the Alex's Mobs wiki that said they're tameable is, they're the biggest bullshitter on the planet. They are not. The Animal Dictionary is a bitch-ass liar too. I have tried right-clicking them with entire stacks of rotten flesh. It does nothing. I have tried dropping entire stacks of rotten flesh in front of them. It does nothing. They just kill me over and over while I try to feed them rotten flesh that I set up an entire fucking mob grinder to get, like a fucking idiot.

Fuck Komodo dragons. Total Komodo dragon death.
Yeah I had the same issue back when I used Alex's Mobs (and his mods in general, I tend not to on big mod packs since Minecraft is unoptimized as shit and his mods uses a lot of the unoptimized shit relating to mobs so it just causes a lag death spiral if I don't cull or have mods that reduce mob functionalities, like I have to do with Cobblemon). Dropping rotten flesh doesn't really work so that's a lie, but I have managed to tame them when they weren't hostile to me (which was rare and only when I snuck behind them) and right clicked them like a normal mob, though I've seem them eat stacks of rotten flesh off the ground too so I'm not sure. And yeah the wikis for Alex's Mods (Mobs and Caves) tend to be incomplete and outdated so maybe something changed.

This sounds fucking hilarious. I can see many "trolling" videos from worthless JewTubers and the occasional funny video. I can also see it being used in new horror maps.

I take this to mean that there wont be any large updates or features anymore. Since drops by their definition have to be small scale, meaning no new dimension, no end overhaul like the nether got, nothing like caves and cliffs.

How much you wanna bet this new mob is another skeleton recolour? Like the existing bogged, or the drowned and husk for zombies
Pale Forest [etc.]
I'm glad to be wrong, I quite like the new mob (in theory at least). It feels like a mob-risk Notch might take really, it's not just a recolour or "expected" hostile (as in vampire, werewolf, mummy, Universal Monsters, y'know?), seems more in the vein of Endermen.

Anyone played Cobblemon? Anyone have some mod recommendations to go along with it? I have a few already but I'm always curious.
I have. It’s good albeit extremely feature-incomplete. In the last time I’ve played, there weren’t even any TMs!
The best part is the art and modeling, which are far more cohesive with Minecraft’s appearence compared to pixelmon.
Currently it feels very rough and unfinished but it has potential for the future.

I think they learned their lesson after trying to cram in a bunch of shit into the caves and cliffs update. If they want to iteratively change the end and slowly add new stuff to it overtime im fine with that as well.

Yeah, base Cobblemon is definitely incomplete. The animations are great for those that have it, the battle system is clean, the models are great, it's very easy to add new models and even Pokemon into the mod, comes with a cute map, but most of what the mod actually needs come from addons that other people make. TMs, riding Pokemon, Mega Evolution, other mod integrations, etc. They really need to look into including that stuff in the base game unless they're content with having it as a platform for other modders to make their own addons for it. Pixelmon is greatly out of place but is feature complete.

I did not know it had addons, thanks! I’ll have to look into those.

I haven't touched this game in years, is every fucking update these days just a slightly recolored biome inhabited by "the whippersnapper" or some shit?

so like, what is the point of the update? The biome serves zero purpose other than recolored wood and ugly vines/moss that don't even change color to match the biome they are in. The mob is pointless, drops nothing and the heart thing does literally nothing other than summon the pointless mob, we already have daylight detectors so its not like it would even be of any use for redstone. This is all just pointless bloat, like the archeology or the sniffer, but even more devoid of use.

I did not know it had addons, thanks! I’ll have to look into those.
Here's some that I personally use:
Cobblemon Integrations
Cob Gyms (haven't used it just yet but I have it installed and ready to go since it looks interesting and gives more meaning to leveling)
MoreCobblemonTweaks
Cobblepedia
Radical Cobblemon Trainers
CobblemonRider
Myths and Legends (when it fucking works) (Datapack)
Gravelmon (adds a fuck ton of fakemon/fan game versions of Pokemon, though some are 2D and should be disabled, requires this mod too)
Cobblemon Unchained (when it also fucking works)
That's really it, I tend to mix and match some more but it depends. If I'm using Create I'll install CreatexCobblemon addons, sometimes I'll install certain resource packs (such as remodels and putting shinies on the minimap radar) and data packs when I feel like it (such as giving the aforementioned shinies particle effects), but the rest is up to what you want. There's much more but some are outdated, garbage, or just not my taste.

Could anyone please suggest a launcher for Win 7?
Microdong.png
:informative: Mojang is ending support for the Minecraft Launder for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. You will continue to receive updates until March of 2025. After this time, you will no longer receive updates or support for Launcher, and we recommend that you move to Windows 10 or higher to continue receiving future updates. You will still be able to use Launcher for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 devices without support or updates. Click here⤴ for more information.
Modrinth installed on my system and ran from the installer, but on subsequent attempts to launch it got caught in an update loop
And please don't just post "you should be on 10 by now" or "use linux lol"

Electron is the work of the devil. Use MultiMC, it even works on XP

I feel like Minecraft lost it's way as soon as the emphasis shifted from building buildings to all the other shit. It would have been some time between the update that added the Nether and the update that added the End. It used to be that you explored to find new blocks to add to your base; now half the time you explore to find potion ingredients, or to find tool upgrades, or what have you. The more this progression shit intruded, the more "meh" stuff like new colors of blocks began to feel. You start asking yourself what the use of stuff is, which was never how it worked in the first few years the game was out. Item farming also fucks up the game; the loop of going out to find materials, taking them back to base, and building with them was extremely addictive. Now it's go out to find materials, use those materials to upgrade your equipment, use the equipment to get way more materials, use those to build an item farm, etc. The fact that the more elaborate options exist means that choosing to ignore them is a decision you have to make. Is your base "complete" without a turtle farm? Basically, the game used to just have one problem to solve- "what am I going to build?" Now the game breaks that problem up into a bunch of smaller problems, and I think that ruins it.

I'm actually curious as to the reason you stayed, as a fellow Windows 7 fan.
At the time 10 was being pushed, and you could get the free ""upgrade"", I had both a desktop and a laptop computer. I kept putting off the install on the former, as I wanted to back all my files up to an external drive just in case, but let it go through on the latter, which soon started  chugging doing even basic tasks; it took hours to tear out all the junk that came bundled with 10, too. "OK," I naively thought, "I know what to get rid of now, I'll only have to do it the one time, and my PC is a beast of a machine anyway". Then came the unavoidable and seemingly nonstop update downloads that I couldn't decline, only ever delay. I read it  somewhere on the Farms just yesterday that of late Microsoft has been trying to copy Apple in that you don't own your computer, they do, and that really started with Windows 10.

That Creaking sounds like a great idea.

That's where I think Minecraft could shine. Embracing a sort of uniqueness and almost folklorish nature to it. Things like the Creepers and Ghasts as enemies, in contrast to mundane shit like Zombies, Skeletons and Spiders (not that those are bad, they're a very iconic part of the game, but you get what I mean).

Yeah that's a good enough reason as any, in fact that should've kept people from upgrades but normies gonna normie. "It's just an update bro!" and other brainlet excuses.

Still don't understand why a Minecraft movie needs a DEI overweight niggertte in it. Have the 5-10 year old target audience asked for this?
