I'm pretty sure Chris's idea of an "open relationship" means that he can have a lesbian three-way with Catie and some attractive lesbian. I bet if Colin was actually a girl Chris wouldn't have reacted nearly as defensively as he did.

One question though: Is the content of the emails literally all Chris had to go on with Colin? Like, Catie is spending some time with this nice, attractive and wealthy guy... with no other details to go on, it's enough to make Chris explode with jealousy? Cause hot damn

It's well trod ground that Chris occupies his own narrative driven, solipsistic, little world. And we've all seen the fall out in the form of Adam Stackhouse and the Greene County Conspiracy.

But what fascinates me is getting to witness the process.

1) Where's Catie?
2) On a boat with a friend.
3) What's he doing to her?
4) Nothing, he's from a respectable affluent family.

With NO OTHER DATA POINTS.

Chris says 'I am certain he would not honor or respect her for the person and bisexual she is' and tells him that Chris can not imagine his 'Cold, money filled blue blood will satisfy her emotional needs'.

It's like watching Bob Ross paint. Literally, if you only know him as a pop culture thing, go watch his old shows. There'd be an indistinct, malformed shape on the canvas. And 3 seconds later it's a fucking mountain. And you watched him do it, but.... you don't know how he did it.

The wealth factor was a very simple jealousy fuel, like with Liquid Chris. Colin is wealthy, so he can offer things to people Chris cannot -- like dinners at french restaurants. The name was never discussed, but it's obviously french, and a New York french restaurant is likely something so cliche, even Chris would get understand it's a privilege to eat there. At least, that's how I interpret it.

You're absolutely right. One of the reasons I dropped Colin was because he was becoming too much of an antagonist (or classic troll, if you will) when he was only intended to be a "walk on". I tried to make Colin the type of man any woman would fall for (attractive, rich, successful, charming...). In the scenario I set up, it seemed only natural that Catie (or pretty much any other woman) would find Colin appealing.

It's easy to push Chris's buttons, and there's nothing really constructive or productive to be gained from it.

It was in response to him taking Catie for granted.

I did ask for Colin to be black, though. I think that'd make it funnier. I'm not sure if he ended up black.

He did end up being black later on . During these email exchanges, Chris couldn't see Colin's profile picture (he uses AOL which doesn't have that feature). This is the picture of Colin that Shaina sent to Chris.

It was also to call him out for taking certain aspects of his relationship with Catie for granted. Catie NEVER made any commitment to Chris, they were friends at the time she spent the weekend with Colin. She didn't owe him any explanation for her choices or behavior and neither did Colin.

And he wasn't the best parent, but I feel like things might've been different if Bob was still around.

Bob's hold on Chris' leash was slipping fast even without the poor health. Chris is a severely stubborn cuss, and no amount of Bob calling him a "faggot" was going to deter Princess Shartington from staggering around the house in drag.

I love how Chris and Caties Okcupid quiz score of 95% is his trump card against any cold hearted blueblooded millionaire.

Even after all he's gone through recently, he still likes to tell people he's the creator of the electric hedgehog pokemons sonichu and rosechu. In a way, that's kind of nice. A callback to a more "innocent" time.
I was honestly surprised Chris didn't put that in the "apology" letters. But I guess telling store managers not to confuse love and sex was even more important.

The whole open relationship thing is just bizarre.

When the Colin apology video first came out it was assumed that Catie pushed the open relationship. I felt a little bad for Chris, because what he wants most in the world is to find his sweetheart and be with her forever. So to find a willing sweetheart, but have her not be willing to commit to be exclusive to him would be painful. The sort of thing that would make a lot of people jealoous and uncomfortable, let alone Chris. I will admit that I can't handle an open relationship, and that I walk away if an otherwise ideal woman tells me that she isn't going to want to be exclusive in the forseeable future. Maybe that makes me a little less mature or grounded than some people, but I don't think it makes me particularly unusual.

But now that we know he pushed it and continues to seek an open relationship. That boggles my mind. The explanation seems to be that he wants to have sex with other women or invite other women in to the bed. I just can't square that with every single other thing that has come out of his mouth for the past 10 years. I guess I should expect that sort of thing for Chris, but I can't remember a case where he was so self-contradictory about something that was important to him and insistent that he wants something that he so clearly doesn't.

Did Chris spew out any racial slurs or show any signs of racism when he saw that pic?

Several of the screenshots didn't load for me, but from what I did read, Chris is like Goofus from that cartoon that ran in Highlights magazine:

Goofus requests an open relationship in which he is free to do whatever he likes while his girlfriend must remain fiercely loyal
Gallant realizes that his girlfriend going on a boat ride with a guy named 'Colin' is not a threat to his relationship and doesn't whine about it

Chris either operates on a logical plane none of us could even aspire to reach or he is completely unbound by logic. Either way there is a certain beauty about the complex structure of his thought processes.

One way Chris logic sometimes fails is this:

1. Start with some facts
2. Consider those facts and draw conclusions. Those conclusions now become new facts.
3. Draw a new set of conclusions based on those new facts.
4. Repeat.

It fails not just because his conclusions are sometimes shaky, but also because he doesn't distinguish well between a fact that is a fact and a conclusion he drew from that fact. Both are equally true. This pushes him further down a single train of thought than anyone else would. Because anyone else would be able to return to the basic facts to consider other possibilities. Chris doesn't do that.

I feel like we can emulate the Chris Chandler Weltanschauung with the following method:

[That's right boys and girls. I still had my 2014 Weltanschauung card to play this late in the December. Let that be a lesson to not use all your pretensious German nouns first thing in the year.]
