Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
On Japanese internets, there's the term porikore for "political correctness", which is roughly equivalent to "woke" in the West. And yet if one searches for porikore on Google, top results seem to describe it as denying differences in people for fear of "offending" -- in other words seems to be attempted "social engineering" to BS Japanese into thinking "being a decent human being" is being SJW.

"It's all so tiresome."

ポリコレ(ポリティカルコレクトネス)とは、特定の人物に対して不快感や不利益を与えないようにする行為のこと。 現代では、人種や宗教、性別や見た目などにおいて差別や偏見を含まない中立的な表現を用いることに使われる。

Political correctness is the act of not causing discomfort or disadvantage to a particular person. In modern times, it is used to refer to the use of neutral expressions that do not include discrimination or prejudice in terms of race, religion, sex, appearance, etc.

On the bright side, in Google and Yahoo (the engine that they actually use) the top suggestions below ポリコレ意味 (polikore definition) are ポリコレうんざり and ポリコレうざい respectively, roughly translated to "sick and tired of polikore". This term is also used in relation to the Olympics or Disney, most Japanese discussions online on xitter or yahoo or people I've talked to are generally on the anti woke side of things. Google may be astroturfing as always but Japanese web ain't buying it seems.

Generally speaking, topics like troons being able to change their gender on the family registry have made news recently last year because it was ruled as unconstitutional to have to get them to get the chop first. People on the Internet I saw were generally unsupportive because it means perverts could change their gender legally and start going into women's bathrooms setting up cameras and such, which is known to everyone that it already happens so it seems like a natural response. From what I've seen it's like Japan has its own problems separated from woke nonsense overseas and generally just laugh at us or get annoyed that it is infesting their Western movies and entertainment.

That never happens.

Ok it happened once but that's a one time thing.

Ok it happened more times, shuuuush.

Hey guys setting up cameras in public bathrooms is a good thing. You should't be using public bathrooms anyway!

Seems like AI anything sites always want you to "upgrade to Premium", "sign in with Google", or at least turn ad block off.

Also while I don't REEE about AI-made art like copyright fanatics, AI art still always has such a surreal "off" feel to it.

That's good. I very much doubt relatively conservative Japan is gonna be changed overnight by some "social engineering" BS.

Shout out to Jight, the creators of the Jight Phone, "the minimalist phone" that requires DavX, AOSP, and perpetual Internet access in order to use. Love their chickenshit minimalist perpetual scroll bullshit site that you always have to login to to manage your phone. The epitome of Silicon Valley minimalism.

I recently had to completely block all the IPs from OpenAI because not only do these fuckers have 3 separate crawlers for ChatGPT that run async on multiple IPs, but they also completely fucking ignore robots.txt like the malicious chinese do. They were bombarding the fuck out of my webserver just for their AI training data while being the most arrogant assholes about it. I fixed the issue that even allowed them to slow us down in the first place but the fact that this kind of bullshit is seen as acceptable in the modern age by corpo-niggers is fucking disgusting. I now completely understand the common mentality of giving a middle-finger to crawlers, something I didn't understand before because I thought it was a non-issue considering your site would appear in search results.

AI shit is legitimately expensive to run and comes with idiotically restrictive ToS if you aren't running it yourself, so this is kind of understandable even if it sucks.

If you try to access a live Twitch broadcast, not even ad block can stop the obnoxious advertising that runs for awhile.

Best to access archived streams instead if you don't want ads pushed on you (for long anyway).

"sick and tired of polikore"
Hopefully it stays that way until -- and if -- Current Year finally ends.

Found another example of attempted "social engineering" towards Japanese:

On Japanese Google, if you look up "nutjob", the first result is an English-teaching site with "racist nutjob" in that search result.

first result said:
nutjobの意味・使い方・読み方
nutjobとは · nut-job. 名. 〈俗・軽蔑的〉頭のおかしい人、変人{へんじん}. 単語帳 · racist nutjob. → racist nut-job. 単語帳. 閉じる · racist nut-job.

More generally it's like UI designers have stopped having fun. I've seen genuine UI related blog posts where they argue anything that isn't flat is bad because muh ergonomics or <insert speculative psychological term here>. I understand that maybe having a few extra gradients to make an icon or button pop or putting in extra effort to make a it look unique may not scientifically be the "best choice" but come on, everything looks the same with no indication anything will ever change. I miss the days where each website or app was unique or memorable in some way. But now look at any modern website, UI or OS and they've had the same soulless design for well over a decade and a half by now. Does anyone have any examples where this isn't the case in current year?
Yeah. Its sad.

Its no wonder you see people using themes to make their os look like its from the 2000's

I wish you could actually talk about things within reason without being censored by automated processes, banned by powertripping fedposters, or brigaded by concern trolls.
I suspect that the clearnet is going to become completely unusable for anyone who cares about this in the next 10 years. Thankfully I2P exists, and you don't even need to port-forward to host your own site on it.

The clearnet is already like this for all its sites when The Kiwi Farms has no accessible clearnet mirrors.

The only other possible exception I can think of are small forums on a niche topic where it's so on topic everywhere it's less of a discussion and more of sharing of facts. But even then all it takes to go to shit is one man in a dress...

There's still a few "wrongthink friendly" sites out there, but they can be hard to find.

For one example, there is Kotaku In Action 2 which sorta feels like KF, but it seems it's only serious talk and no funposting there.

In the cloud, yes. It's mainly a cloud problem, not an AI problem. AWS, Azure, GCP and similar services are all RIDICULOUSLY overpriced out the ass because they're designed to siphon money out of gigantic corporations and create vendor lock-in.

I hate that even if you want to have your niche community on Reddit or Discord, some tranny janny power tripping faggot still has the authority to tell you how to run your community and what rules you need to abide to.

They can just take over your community and enforce their own rules.

semi-related, but what the fuck is it with buying music these days? wasn't even that old or niche, but getting a simple flac or even MP3 was borderline impossible, and no I'm not gonna sign up to apple music or spotify to stream that shit, I wanna OWN it.

unironically cheapest and easiest was to simply look up where to buy the CD (thanks discogs) and rip that shit myself a few days later. however that only works if there even is a physical release, some stuff is literally only available as stream in a fucking subscription. thankfully it was available on the high seas, but wtf...

I had this same issue, and I found the best solution was actually to buy off Amazon Music. You can still buy individual songs or entire albums the old fashioned way. They allow you to download as an MP3 as well.
