Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

Anyone else notice their Youtube feed being peppered with recommendations for non-name streamers with like 2-3 viewers?

Last few months whenever I open Youtube, near the top of the feed there is always someone being recommended who is "Live" with like 2 viewers watching and its some channel with a 100 subs. No matter how many time I click not interested on these, another one pops up like some digital mushroom.

I assume Youtube has some subscription thing where you can pay them to push your dead channel to more viewers, otherwise it makes no fucking sense.

I don't think that's the case. My theory is that they rather want to become like Tiktok, therefor pushing more and more no-name channels made by ordinary people to the top. It's not just no-name streamers, it's very small channels of people just complaining about their life or talking about something that interests them, not unlike Tiktok where most of the content is also just ordinary people and not the next MrBeast. (This is my impression from what I've observed passively and heard, I use neither of those services, so my theory could be flawed.)

They've been promoting no name channels for a few years now, IIRC. The problem is that they have no way of promoting good content that gets no views without also promoting trash content that gets no views because the channel sucks.

Yes, especially the ADHD style of subtitles where it's a single word at a time instead of a proper sentence. But also zoomers apparently watch movies and shows with subtitles on streaming services to the point they have difficulty with dialogue without subtitles. I remember Ubisoft doing a conference on accessibility a few years back and they mentioned that putting subtitles by default, most people left them on compared to people having to seek them on their own.
I can appreciate subtitles for foreign language stuff, but it's really getting overboard.

I will say that part of it is audio mixing these days is crap. With a decent system and a center channel it usually works well but if you're watching most of your shows on your phone you're not going to have a good audio experience.

I can watch old movies in English without subs just fine (and I'm an ESL), but the dialogues in "new" (last 20 years or so) movies are barely comprehensible without subs to me. It's not only the audio mixing, but also modern actors mumbling their lines all the time because it's apparently more "natural". Even modern movies in my native language are hard to understand, the problem is global.

This change actually got made a few years ago and is less of a "pay for exposure" and seemingly a natural algorithm change, youtube occasionally prioritizes at least one low-view+low-subscriber count channel (it might also prioritize longer content now for some reason but not sure) to randomly add to your recommended side bar or live feed.
Was in 2022 or so when they updated their algorithm to be like this, and seems to mostly be independent of other algorithm variables since the content is always completely removed from what naturally shows up in a given feed, they probably just arbitrarily push channels on some rotation with very loose rules to make them "relevant". (i.e. Its probably more jeet code)

I'd prefer that over automatically translating titles into English, where I will open a video only to find out the actual content is in something else. Also, there's apparently AI dub sometimes, but I never opened a video that had the "dub" label on it.

In a similar vein, I hate when websites choose their language based on IP. My system is in English, my browser is in English, my Accept-Language header only requests English, why the fuck would you niggers show me shit in my VPN country's language? And I wish an extra painful ball sanding session to those who don't put a flag or other easily recognizable pictorgram next to the language chooser. Yeah, surprise, I can't change the language if I don't know which fucking button will allow me to do that, shitheads.

about 6 months ago it only reccomended me jeet live streams, most of those were thirst trapping jeeta's in mud brick hovels in buttfuck india. Quite a few of them were the Jeeta laying down, face and tits in frame, jiggling and moaning like they were getting fucked. Usually with 3 or so toddler jeetlings running around.

I posted something like - for shame, doing this in front of children in one chat and she went bright purple

Looked up a topic I'm interested in on YouTube (which is admittedly pretty niche), and I noticed that a large proportion of results were AI videos. They all have the EXACT same pattern of thumbnail, are roughly 3 minutes long, and have no views.

I guess this isn't a new phenomenon now but it's still annoying and baffling to me.
