Modern Web Woes - I'm mad at the internet

You know what's more or less as annoying as Pinterest? When one sees an image in image search, but the site the image result links to is a forum, Reddit thread, or Quora thing. One where the full image one wanted to see is buried somewhere in one of many, many text links.

This is why it's good when image searches have a direct link to the file itself.

Depending on just which permissions they have locked down, you can sometimes sleaze your way around this by editing the registry directly and putting your extensions on the whitelist.
I've had success using portable versions that require no installation. But it depends on how locked down everything is, sometimes you try to open up a pack of bubblegum and the computer says you can't do that without admin permissions.

Used to be able to click on the image, right click on the preview and it would be a link to the correct image.
Now Google does thumbnails at some potato resolution forcing a click through to the original website. And if it's on Reddit then it'll likely just dump you on the subreddit and good luck finding the image.

Google are also fucking with the cached page link. The menu is gone and now it should a "About This Result" popup that may or may not have a link to the cached page.

It just keeps getting worse.

Am I the only one that not only hates JavaScript, but refuses to use it except when absolutely required? I know it can do some cool shit, but most sites that use it do shit that ranges from uneccessary to absolutely fucked up.

I'm lucky that I can even POST on KiwiFarms without having to enable JavaScript.
I also have a big swinging dick and therefore leave javascript off by default.

Some pages don't even work without JS. Like YT is just a blank thing with grey rectangles.

I miss when the internet didn't run on it.

Invidious instances usually don't require javascript to watch videos, but those don't work 100% of the time regardless.
For YouTube I generally use pipe-viewer. As for embedding them in posts on the farms, well I can't do that anymore since I gave up javascript.

I miss when you could actually find things on Google.

Google really went to hell in 2016. Not just because of the wrongthink damage control shit, and delisting of based content (although that is a huge part of it), but because they changed their algorithms to show paid search results up front, and ALWAYS show sites with high levels of traffic first, even if they're less relevant.

Let's say I wanted to search for astronomy or mythology or something. It used to be Google would offer whatever best fit the keywords you put in. Now, no matter what combination of keywords you use, Google slaps the exact same "highly visited" "most popular" websites first most of the time. It's annoying because the most popular sites definitely does not automatically mean the best information or most detailed obscure information. Especially if you've already read it and finished the page. Like, I saw it, I don't need to see it 50 times.

You have to dig back to page 5 or 10 to get an actually find some different damned websites now. It's made research such a pain. And it's a self-perpetuating system because whatever is at the top always gets the most clicks.

Niche discord servers always seem to have so many users but very little conversation. It's where communities go to die.
Im sure thats true for fourms too , do you even wanna bet what percentage of users actually post on this site? My main issues with discord is how its killed the guide or the long fourm post explaining something , try to mod any game released in the last 5 years , chances are all the info on modding it is in some jack offs discord or purposly kept hidden by some asshole looking to make money from his forbidden knowledge , yet you can find detailed guides for games released a decade ago about how to modify and make anything you want for it on some old fourm by some russian guy who probably overdosed in his computer chair.

Discord is just a slightly better version of IRC. I have no idea why people like it so much. Yeah, IRC is useful as far as a chatroom can be useful for something, but that's it. Discord should never be a place for storing or transmitting information, its format just doesn't allow for that to happen in a reasonable way. Reddit is just a shitty version of a forum. Why people choose to use either of those over a traditional forum format is beyond me.

I hate how all niche internet communities are tied to fucking discord and reddit now , forums are dead and it makes searching for anything niche hell because everything is on a discord that you probably cant find a invite to or a dead reddit that no one but bots post on , and thats before all the security concerns regarding those platforms.
One of the worst parts is that when they do shut down as communities do over time after they run their course, all the info, media, etc will all go poof with it. I've found tons of useful information on still running dead forums or though archives of them on archive.org. But when a Discord community shuts down, its like it never existed to begin with.

there are ways to scrape discord chat histories and save them as an archive, i've seen them used for callout posts whenever some petty drama happens in an admin/private channel.
though you won't have access to those unless the person who made the archives publishes/shares them somewhere, which also has a significant chance of going poof given that there's nothing like archive.md for stuff like this yet, or even ever if discord is still around by the time someone is arsed to do it.

my personal problem with discord server based communities has to be the fact that they're rarely well organised and structured; i had to find out about something in a minecraft mod a while back and when i looked through the server i couldn't find anything about it except for -
  • a single message about the problem, that was interrupted by server regulars shitposting
  • a small dismissive response about what i was looking for
  • the actual solution i was looking for that was colliding with another discussion that was ongoing in the same channel; about 20% of it was stuff i actually needed and the rest was irrelevant garbage that only got in my way.
  • "edit: nvm fixed it"

What the fuck is with all of the weaponized subliminal avatars on most sites post 2017?
It can be anything from that shitty painting of a guy with its mouth open looking to the side to some psychadelic tier trippy shit that is deepbaked. Is that just glowniggers trying out new forms of psych warfare Since it appears far more malignant than being a forced meme?

>or you get no response for days and just post “dead server” and instantly every faggot comes out of nowhere just to claim it isnt and then go right back to leaving the server dead

>then act like its some World ending level event when you ping anyone. But they feel compelled to tell everyone how embarassing it was when they dropped their sandwich at work in front of becky and act like it isnt complete cringe but you d be mistaken to actually want to talk about the subject of the fucking server.

>Then will either say some invalidating redditor bullshit of “itz just da servers ur on bruh” “huh dats weird ive neberexperienced that lol” and other irrelevant bullshit.

>they are also far more concerned with banning and monitoring ips than actually addressing real problems like Troons derailing everything and spamming faggot porn and earrape while performing gay ops in every server.

I always found discucks to be a waste of time and found the solutions on my own. I also completely understand why people would get sick of that bullshit. But at the end of the day its just a screen bro and the internet is a big place with better places to spend your time and ask for help.
