Saw that there wasn't a monitor/display thread despite it being a very important part of a setup so i decided to make one. What monitors is everyone here using?

If you configure them right, lots of modern TVs can make great monitors. You have to turn off all the post-processing (usually by enabling game mode or something). There are also some pains if you go with an OLED panel like this, such as auto-dimming but it’s worth it for OLED.I wondered about using a TV as a monitor. It’s the same thing, yeah? And TVs are dead cheap
I haven't switched from a 144hz gsync monitor from dell that I got years ago. Gsync or freesync are game changers if you haven't utilized them. I wouldn't bother using TVs as monitors because they lack features like this.
Of course it's a grand minimum. Monitors are still going to be better for your money, unless you really think you need a much much larger screen. Some TVs do support G-Sync like the LG CX/C1/C2.
Absolutely. It’s a highly autistic way of computing. I write software for a living so being able to see 100+ lines of code on a 4K display without the need for any scaling is what makes it worth it for me.Of course it's a grand minimum. So do you have this LG model in specific or was it just an example? If you do, what's your experience with their reliability? I haven't heard good things about LG but that might just relate to cheaper consumer end goods.Absolutely. It’s a highly autistic way of computing. Yeah I have the C2. Honestly I’m not sure about reliability yet since I’ve only had it for a month, but so far so good.So do you have this LG model in specific or was it just an example? I was waiting for that when I got my 2k and it's probably been over 5 years. How are the prices really especially with trade being as it is?I'd recommend 2560x1440 monitors to someone wanting a new monitor. 2k monitors now seem to hit that sweet spot of price and quality. There are a lot of high quality 27' 2k monitors with 144/165 frames per second available for $300-400. The jump from 1k to 2k is large and you won't regret it.
But if you wish to wait for a while, we'll soon have some reasonably priced 4k screens
I know what you mean - so was I lol. But I recently bought my father a gigabyte m28u for $500. I think it's pretty good for its price. I can see prices reaching ~$400 within a couple of years.I was waiting for that when I got my 2k and it's probably been over 5 years. How are the prices really especially with trade being as it is?
Oh wow that might actually be the price I'd had this monitor at back then, and it's basically got the same specs at 4k. Really though not sure how well I could drive the resolution, it's good the monitors are within a decent price range but hardware that could actually run it at it's max might be more expensive now rather than less. The performance balance is still too good at 2k.I know what you mean - so was I lol. But I recently bought my father a gigabyte m28u for $500. I think it's pretty good for its price. There is plenty to say about monitors. PPi,gloss vs matte, panel types, tv vs monitors, sizing, response times, subpixel layputs, input lag, etc. No need to be so hostile. I didn't bother saying anything seeing as how i use a 48 inch c1 which is something that 99% of people don't use.Maybe there was no thread on monitors because nobody has anything to say about them. Yourself included since you didn't say anything other than asking for someone else to start a conversation you want to have.
I'm using an lg c1. Burn-in probably isn't an issue unless you never turn your monitor off and blast it at 100% brightness. My c1 has 6k hours so far and I have no signs of burn-in. From what I understand, dead pixels are more of a problem now than burn-in.Yeah I have the C2. Honestly I’m not sure about reliability yet since I’ve only had it for a month, but so far so good.
I am babying it a little since it’s OLED and there’s the risk of burn-in but supposedly you don’t have to worry too much about that if you leave the safety features on.
Look at every other thread on this board:There is plenty to say about monitors.
