He is out of touch. Why would anyone want to be compared to present day Star Wars and Marvel?
Because Boon still believes in his delusional world to think that this dying franchise will forever be carved into everyone’s memories.
In reality, fuck no. MK11 is the start to a shithole of a franchise.
MK1 only makes it worse.

Forever franchise?

Am I just an out of touch boomer? I feel like MK's cultural high was with the film and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in like 1995/1996.

Or is it just the fact that I was 5/6 at that point so it felt that way?
As a dude who was old enough to remember the 90s beyond childhood nostalgia, you're on point. 1995 was incredible for the franchise with the surprisingly-fun movie and vanilla MK3 being even faster-paced than the previous games and its plot of "Shao Kahn actually conquered Earth!"

1996 saw things quickly begin to collapse. The ninjas got added back in via Ultimate but there ended up so many palette swaps (Ermac the red ninja was inevitable, but Rain...?), palette swap types (male ninjas, female ninjas, now cyber ninjas!), recycled AND cheesy animations compared to MK2 (look how lifeless and/or dumb most fatalities are), and finally moving too far from the Oriental/Mordor martial arts flick feeling the first two games had that people began to check out pretty fast. Trilogy and Mythologies just felt sad and MK4 was a joke, as amazing as it was in retrospect for setting up a ton of lore.

MK Deadly Alliance thankfully gave much-needed atmosphere and gameplay fun to the series again when it debuted five years after MK4 in 2002.

Boon's delusion and ego to think that MK will forever be a profitable series, new or not. Its peak was when it was MK2. And then falls off in MK3 to MK4; then wakes up again by MKDA, then fell into the short end of the stick again with MKA, sadly Midway went bankrupt after MK vs DC. NRS takes over and handle the rest. MK9 starts up good, but when DEI and MKX arrives, things start to nosedive further, as it was the former shell of its identity. It is Fag Kumbat now, and Boon is thriving over removing the soul of what make it charming and memorable, starting with 11 and 1. The only fans that truly support of Boon's delusions and retardation were newfags and fujoshits.

Even I still like MK9, much like the other horny teens that got into MK9 as their MK before experiencing the older MKs. Except, my first MK was MK 1992.

It was peak in the 90s, now washed out from other childhood nostalgiafags trying its worst to "regain" its identity and doubling down further into the abyss. The 95, Annihilation movies are more fun than whatever the 2021 movie is. Also, recently traced this drawing of Raiden by John Tobias, with some different coloring style onto him.

Forever woke as fucking disney, i wouldn't wanna compare anything to current starwars, Ed Buffoon is extremely out of touch. Mortal Kombat XL was the last one, after that MK was dead.

So this is why the last two MK games are Marvel-Lite and full of gay multiverse shit. Boon wants his own expanded universe only with gore and even uglier trannies. MK 9 gave the series a second wind, but Boon and the other retards at NetherRealm Studios have squandered it. The best hope for the series now is to put it on ice, not endlessly churn out more slop.

And forever ruined as Disney and all of its IPs (RIP Muppets (:_( ).

Boon chasing after esports half-assed didn't help things. Developers have to be attentive for as long as they can with esports games, but after a year into a NRS game's life Boon says fuck it, making another game that throws some competitive players off with new gimmicks (Kameos nobody likes in 1). There's a reason why people say Sonic Fox is the only one who wins in NRS games, and nobody wants to play competitive MK despite XL and 11's Evo numbers. 2 is a better game when it comes to aesthetics and fatalities, but UMK3 is the only one that gets any online action (Deception was popular back in the day, but I don't think it can be played online).

New troon faces intro dialogues.
Ngl the armor Designs are pretty cool, but why the fuck do they open their fucking helmets? It doesn't even matter how the face underneath looks, when the visor makes it look totally out of place. Yes, i know the answer is Iron Man.
But seriously getting outraged about this when the whole gimmick with MK1 is (played out) timeline shenanigans is silly.

Because it proved everything that's been said about genderbending/raceswapping for Blackrock bucks, and no one asked for trannies cosplaying as Iron Man. There are other things to critique and be irritated with (more fucking guest characters nobody asked for, more invasions, the meta is still shit, etc.)

Eugh...RIP Cyrax and Sektor of old. The Cyrax thing kinda bugs me personally because the poor guy couldn't catch a break. I always felt bad for him.

Ignoring Armaggddon, he gets forced into being a cyborg in the two timelines. He gets turned into a human in his ending in Gold iirc but it just went downhill when NRS got their hands on him. Sure, his MK9 ending is alright but come MK11, they basically have him as an NPC with a unique moveset and they kill him off for no reason and have him mope about not wanting to live as a cyborg when MK9 proved he could do that just fine. I bring it up because it's the same timeline by the same studio yet they don't really care for the shit they make for their characters.

Also, I mentioned the Skarlet as a female cyborg in another post but they could just have used Frost since they went through the effort making her a cyborg in MK11. Which doesn't make much sense either that she's the leader of the Cyber Initiative because I thought that was Sektor's deal. Instead, he's been downgraded to a jobber, then a jihadist.

Anyway The 4th Snake, youtube MK Sperg who's less spergy than his other spergy MK friends, uploaded a video about the situation so make of it as you wish.
I personally found it a little...limpdicked but I'm glad that he's calling out stupidity on both sides. Who in the fuck were mad about Cyrax being black lol. I thought it was a basic fact that he was from Botswana.

For some reason Girlrax is from Nigeria which is....well it's something.

In the meantime, you can listen to these fanmade theme songs for Sektor and Cyrax, which I occasionally jam to. I love the Sektor one, back from the time when the writers still gave a shit about him.

But seriously getting outraged about this when the whole gimmick with MK1 is (played out) timeline shenanigans is silly.
I've said it before but it's symbolic of a bigger issue with how NRS is treating the franchise currently. Monetization, multiverse trend chasing, retarded writing, kameos, shit lackluster content, SWITCH PORT, even casting if you ask me.

Timeline shit or not, nothing is stopping them from making new characters or using the other cyborg girls, they themselves introduced instead of rehashing fan favorites for quotas. It's blatantly transparent.

And, let me be schizo here for a second, they crossed a threshold that will make DEI investment goblins ree in monetary rage if they go back on it. So long as being progressive is in style, we will never get Cyrax and Sektor of old back as player characters. This is a symptom, not the disease.
