Two hours into story mode and it's still ass. The villains feel ineffectual as fuck, with multiple characters taking them down without any issue (maybe have an actual villain faction so it doesn't happen?). A lot of scenes are ridiculous "here is how character A got their iconic B" that modern writers like to write because they are hacks that are dependent on what other people did ("Quan Chee's skin is white because a random ghost sucked his soul"). I wonder if any character even dies in this shit considering how much it's aping Marvel.

Also the simping for Outerrealm is ridiculous, the game tries to make it heaven on earth because a woman is in power while simultaneously 80% of the royal court is evil. There is a part where the heroes walk into a living forest and are told that, no, only the good spirits are in this forest. Because dispossessed spirits are known to be a good thing.

It's meant to be a sad scene since King Jerrod takes over control of Ermac after getting punched a few times, with Mileena and Kitana around her as she dies, but the scene just drags on to where you don't care. The story then goes full electric boogaloo and hammers in all the timelines fighting on the pyramid from Armageddon. The mix-&-matched characters (a Kano-esque Sonya, Shao Khan with Sub-Zero's abilities) you fight are neat and probably the highlight from the story, but you have to sit through 3-4 hours of bullshit to get there.

I'm still wondering why the hell Outworld & Edenia are mixed together as they are, or if the writers in their incompetency didn't know this. Did Liu Kang nuke an entire realm just to make Outworld not evil? If he didn't, did Jerrod & Sindel conquer Outworld? If the latter, that would make them no better than Shao Khan.

The thing that really pisses me off is asia-fication of the entire cast. It's the same fuckers that constantly talk about diversity and racism ("medieval Europe was full of blacks!") and they make a game that has a literal magical fantasy kingdom populated entirely by Asians because martial arts is apperantly something only Asians can do (and women are just as strong as men), there are no Western, South American or Russian martial artists in 2020 knows how to do martial arts.

It's not just racist, it's bad design because everyone looks the fucking same, it's hard to get attached to any character when you can't differentiate anyone in scenes.

Not having Jax and Sonya in the story mode in particular is ridiculous, both of them are some of the most well known series mainstays. But they are not Asian enough.

Because they are modern Western devs making games for a modern gaming audience, it would be extra work so why bother. The days of devs doing crazy impressive work and pushing the boundaries of ports and shit are long gone. That’s the only excuse for why these graphics look worse than MK9 for fucks sake.

Okay finished the story mode, I can confirm it went full MCU capeshit multiverse and it's fucking terrible. Fuck modern writing, hope AI replaces them all. The fucking animated Mortal Kombat animation from 25 years ago is more edgy. Even the ending is the same ending as Avengers with everyone going to eat a shawarma.

All the characters being the same seems to be to facilitate the ending sequence where you fight bizzaro universes of the roster with combined forces because "woah, alternate universes are weird, amirite?". Glad modern devs ruined the entire game to be literal gray slop where everyone is indistinguishable so it will be easier to program. Just fuck it all, Jarek was right about his series:
