I do like the Vita a lot as well. The main thing that holds me back from liking it better is the size of the buttons. It's a larger device than the PSP but it has a smaller dpad and buttons. They're perfectly functional, but looking at them side by side I just like the ratio on the PSP a lot more

There's also one key thing that I think really elevates the PSP over any other console from a materials standpoint. I have no idea how to show it in a picture, and it's a bit tricky to describe, but the entire face of it is actually clear. It's an extremely thin layer, thicker over the screen, maybe a quarter to half a millimeter thick, with black behind it. It's very subtle, but the way light reflects off of it is just really special, whereas the vita is just gloss black. In pictures they look about the same, but I was comparing the sizes of the buttons just now and seeing them side by side the Vita really does just look dull in comparison despite my Vita being more or less mint condition while my PSP has obviously spent a lot of time in someone's pocket because it's just completely covered in those microscratches that happens when you mix plastics and pockets. I guess it's kind of the same effect as the clear coat on a nice vehicle paintjob

So long as we're specifically talking about the transparent version I agree.

ETA: I hate it but remember the prototype PS3 controller?

I've read research before based on someone testing irl sculpts they made of it that showed that the boomerang is a case of "looks weird but feels great" due to the way everything is positioned but at the same time this was 2004/5 and I know damn well the manufacturing spec wasn't there for analog sticks that close to the case edge and maybe even some of the edge buttons, plus good luck getting people to bother to hold that right since they already regularly fuck up holding just a dualshock.

I'm not gonna find pics but the 3DS XL came in some pretty elegant two-tone combos. I think I bought one for my mums in black and a velvety copper or something that I just grabbed off the shelf that but I always thought looked grand after opening it.
The original DS was a bit fat, but otherwise the whole series is beautiful. It’s a shame Nintendo axed it for the Switch.

All of the transparent Nintendos were nice.

Grew up with a solid black and transparent black one cause dad got lucky and got gifted a second one. I think the transparent trend needs to come back. It's so funky and fun to see all the machinery works through the case.

Thread tax: I thought the Gameboy Colour was a pretty cute and sleek handheld. I still have my original one. Granted I don't have my games anymore except for Pokemon Blue but I still have it.

They felt like toys, which was the last time I felt that way about video game anything.

To me it's between the Gamecube (console only), and the PS3, the PHAT PS3.

Gamecube is just so pleasing. Pleasing is the right word. Just in general. Nothing about it is a chore and it's fun to use. Minidiscs? Retarded IMO, but the adorable little door that pops up oh so daintily and the smooth thunk of inserting the disk is easily my favorite disk insert. The controller connectors too: round, well round-ish but idiot proof, and with just the right insertion pressure that never feels too tight or finicky. It feels heavy even though it's really not, there's just this delicious solidity to it, very efficiently designed, don't love the handle but I get it. Hide the power brick and handwave the controllers (I don't hate them but they're...funky, inconsistent visually), just my favorite looking console, hands down. The silver one is gorgeous too, but just in general, chef's kiss.

The PHAT PS3 is also close, it's ostentatiously gigantic and its monolinthine (yes, the "n" is intentional) profile is perfect. I made fun of it for years until I owned one, but as I pulled it out of the box I fell in love once I belheld it personally, it's hard to convey with pictures. It's fucking majestic as upright, and the sensitivity of the touch buttons feels eager to please. That sounds dirty, but I assure you I don't mean it like that. There's just this dominance to it visually, it's hard to explain but I fucking love it, even though I never use it in that configuration since I worry about wear in the vertical configuration. Again handwave the controller, I don't love how the dualshock 3 looks next to it, but internal powerbrick is a HUGE win visually.

I must rate you both :like: and autistic.

I love the Halo 3 LE Xbox 360 design.

Looks like a piece of UNSC military technology. Actually, it's Master Chief's helmet.

The MW2 Xbox 360 Elite gets an honorable mention as well.

These things actually disappointed me a bit because I grew up with this bad boy and always loved the fully transparent look (the black one ain't too bad though):

I still have it right here; couldn't part with it back when I sold off the rest of my collection when retro prices spiked hard.
