Any of his films outside of Star Wars are middling at best. So he just kept going back to the well and recolored the original trilogy into an autistic mess.

Star Wars was more a focusing of Lucas' vision thanks to editors and cinematographers screenwriters than Lucas himself. Even the most beloved the the trilogy (Empire Strikes Back) wasn't even directed by Lucas.
