also, why did he photoshop his actual hand into the 3rd frame rather than draw it? did he think it'd be a clever effect? did he just lack the ability to do it at that angle?

I would've simply drew my hand with the ring on it if I did that (perhaps go all realistic looking if I had to make it look different from the rest of the comic that way). Don't suppose he's done much still-life artwork before. Had an art teacher in high school who really got on my ass about finalizing the drawings when I know they are completed. I don't suppose Chris ever had such a teacher at his school.

I guess to me it looks like he was trying to draw the hand with the fingers clenched and the pinky would be seen wrapped around on the side (or at least that's suppose to be the meaty part of the palm). It obviously didn't work.

Yeah, true....but OP is looking for what is most "Off Model"
In other words, if OPL drew a character as being roughly 7 feet tall with a thin build in every other panel, and then draws them like Peter Dinklage on Horse Steroids in another, the Horse Steroids one would be "off model"

That is what going "off model" looks like.

This is a fruitless quest; as OPLs artwork is so inconsistent, that it would be harder to find one that is "On Model".
