Humans were somehow able to survive for thousands of years without air conditioning. When we stopped letting evolution take it's course, the weakest members of our species were able to survive to adulthood.
Strip down naked and live outside for a year and then get back to me.
Why is it that every office in the world is ice cold?
equipment needing to be in a certain operating temperature, but truthfully even electronics can stand higher temperatures than humans in 99% of use cases. OSHA suggests a 76° maximum set point. That’s a suggestion, not a requirement.
I'd rather be cold than warm, when you're working in a blue collar environment you'll always be generating heat anyways. Couple that with high humidity in an uninsulated tin oven and even the strongest fan will just be blowing hot air on you and your sweat won't even evaporate. Now imagine dealing with that all day and then going home to sweat your balls off instead of paying a little extra to run some A/C when it's unbearably hot and humid.
 
You are compensating for lack of cool air with increased airflow. It will work to a point if humidity is low.
But overall, it is stupid. Modern inverter split AC's burn less power than a big ceiling fan and running costs are in 1-2USD/Unit/Day range. Price for a cheap split is same as for a big ceiling fan.
And good luck getting some sleep with open windows during night and niggers blasting music, cars and other abos doing their shenanigans with their riced up vehicles.
People have to work and good luck doing anything with lack of sleep which will kill you faster than heat will.
A modern AC ceiling fan uses no more than 1.5 A, but most use far less than that. A random Hunter Fan I looked up uses 37 W, or around 60 to 80 CFM/W. DC fans are even more efficient.

What the hell A/C uses less than 200 W?
 
Mine burns around 220-260W and then it turns off before it gets too cold and it's 10 years old now. There are newer and better models.

This. This is the biggest reason I keep A/C running from May-August. There is so much noise pollution at night and my window is next to a road.

The rest of the year it's basically Florida levels of heat and humidity. Ceiling fan just doesn't cut it when it's 33 degrees, 85% humidity.
 
I hate hot weather but my cheapness overrides my heat intolerance. I never turn my A/C on and when people come over in the Summer the first thing they do is bitch about how hot it is. It's 36 C outside idiot of course it's hot!

To beat the heat I keep my blinds down and fill a spray bottle with water. In addition to drinking a lot I spray myself when I feel hot. Very effective.
 
If you can look past the OP's spicy title, there's some solid advice in there.
Consider window units or a mini-split if you only need cooling in a small area.
These days I'd only consider window units. In some parts of Australia, new split-system ACs must be fitted with a remote cut-off switch which can be operated by the electricity provider if your home is fitted with a smart meter. They can't do that if you have a box aircon plugged into a standard 10A or 15A wall socket.

TBH I'm half expecting new box ACs to be phased out over the next few years; I'm seriously considering stockpiling 2 or 3 new units for when/if any of my box units shit the bed and I can't just pop out to the nearest appliance store and buy a new one anymore.

The only other type of real cooling TPTB won't meddle with for now is ducted evaporative aka swamp coolers. Swampies are fine in the dryest areas (such as where I am), but it's worse than useless during the handful of humid days per year around these parts.
Learn when the best time to open your windows is (cool and windy) and actually open them (admittedly not useful in a few climates).
Where possible, buy a house where there are windows (or a window and a door) directly opposite one another. This generates a nice breeze when both are opened on a nice day. If you're building a new house from scratch, this is an easy win.

Ironically, windowshakers are less efficient than modern splits.
So you are basically rolling into Venezuela scenario where people load the grid with battery charging every time there's power and here you would do it with inefficient cooling and more efficient cooling that would run full tilt once power comes on.
Cut-OFF switch is really last resort for stability and it hammers devices hard, especially devices with compressors like these. I have no idea what they were thinking.

These units are great for convenience as you don't need an installer. They can never beat a properly installed split AC tho. What you save in price you burn for power.

I just use a box fan on window that blows cold air inside. Or room fan outside, blowing into window. (Box fan draws some heat from walls back in) Trick from the student days. You can't really remove house swampyness in few morning hours that it gets cold, especially without wind.
 
Many homes are old where I live so they never came with air conditioning, but when people do get AC they go with splits. However it truly depends, I understand why someone in Arizona would need air conditioning a good portion of the year, or Texas. I usually open a window to get a breeze in, but recently not many breezes.

I put ceiling fans in every major room of my house and can set my thermostat to 80° and feel fine. Then I hear about people who can’t stand anything above 72°. What the fuck is wrong with people? Why is it that every office in the world is ice cold?

You know what makes you intolerant to heat? The latter half of pregnancy. With both my kids, I couldn't sleep with a blanket on me because it was so unbearably hot. I had my first in the dead of winter and I still felt too warm.
I had one of mine during a genuinely hot summer (high thirties) and it was like having a small heater implanted in my stomach. I used to just run a cold bath in the morning and go sit in it periodically, like a small miserable hippo. Even the ones i had in the winter I felt boiling the whole time, i can appreciate why pregnant women are more prone to heat stress.
Now it’s hot flashes. Frankly the AMOC can’t turn off fast enough. Nowhere here has AC OR ceiling fans
 
No A/C is very possible if the house and building techniques allow for it. I've stayed in some adobe and cob houses that retained cool temps all day. A cross breeze helps, too. It's just that modern stick houses don't have those capabilities because an A/C is a given with them.
