I actually kinda like Big Bang Theory, though I can see why people might object to the nerd stereotype.
There are several movies:
1.
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. I know it's supposed to be a great movie, but it's hard for me to watch because I'm actually interested in psychology, and I dislike seeing how brutally psychiatry was practiced as recently as the 1960s.
2.
2010 (or any of the other "sequels" to 2001: A Space Odyssey). You have this great (in my opinion) movie whose ambiguity lends itself to multiple interpretations. Then, instead of leaving things as they are, filmmakers try to "improve" upon perfection (and make a quick buck) by making sequels that explain everything from the original movie!
It's like telling a great joke and then explaining it to your audience. I don't
want for you to explain the mysteries surrounding 2001 - the fun comes in savoring the unexplained elements and coming up with your own interpretation of the movie's meaning.
3.
Mall Cop/most Will Ferrell movies. I probably come across as a real humbug when I say this, but I don't really like the modern humor sensibility. There's too much "meta", over-reliance on non-innunendo innuendo (my term for when they leave no ambiguity about telling sex jokes) and just really biazarrely stupid humor.
I'm all for Will Ferrell making a good career for himself by starring in a series of movies - more power to him. But I'm just not a fan of the
kind of movie he makes. I caught Anchorman on TV last month, and except for one or two instances, didn't laugh much. I'm not a "comedy snob" by any means (one of my favorite things to watch on YouTube is the Farting Preacher series), but it seems like there's an overabundance of lowbrow humor on TV and in movies nowadays.
