MST3K Returns! New Episodes

MST3K is now owned by Shout Factory, who will be responsible for clearing movie rights, which should mean they'll have a wider range available to them than Cinematic Titanic. And for those worried that Felicia Day's writing will taint the show, you need to remember we're talking about a show that has hundreds upon hundreds of jokes in each episode. According to MST veteran Paul Chaplin, only about ten percent of the offered riffs were retained. That volume of material needed prevents an overriding voice from taking over.

If I remember correctly the old show was written by having all the writers get into a room, watch a bad movie together, and just write jokes as they thought of them. I don't know if the new show will be the same but I'd like to hope so.

That was one of the charming things about the show. It actually felt like you were watching a bad movie with friends and mocking it, even if you were alone, although it was most fun actually to be with friends watching MST3K doing the same thing.

They would have eight writers in the room together, and additional writers working from home. Joel is saying that he wants to continue that practice.

They're going to keep that secret.
I know that, I was just seeing if anyone had any guesses.

Is anyone gonna be watching the MST3K telethon tonight? Apparently they're gonna have celebrity guests, like Mark Hamill and Jerry Seinfeld in it (as well as in the show itself, too).

I'm gonna try to catch it.
also this is starting to look very ambitious

This is old-ish news, but Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon (of Rick & Morty fame) will be guest writers. Thoughts? I think they could work; the "Rixty Minutes" episode+ it's sequel was just basically riffing on (fictional) TV shows/movies.

Onlines are claiming they've released the first couple of KTMA episodes to the backers.

I know they're probably going to be not so funny being KTMAs but I am still hyped for this. Now if only they can find that lost short, "Mylar- What's It To You?".

These are the first episodes mind you, it didn't really get into the groove until towards the end of run on that station.

Yeah the KTMA eps are interesting to see how the show developed. By Gamera vs Guiron they were starting to get the basic idea fleshed out. It doesn't hurt that G vs Guiron is easymode for riffing.

I like that they finish it off with Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds, never even showed up later in Season Three.

Watching my yearly MST3K tukery day and something tells me they're ass blasted after not scamming 4 million dollars last go around. Zero dedicated ad breaks, just ads fucking every movie up. Not a single movie from the dumb new cunt either yet. Honestly, I grew up on this shit but God has it gone gaaaay.
