I'm niave and don't know anything about the new MLP but ...damn.... how are these kids not dead from bullying yet? When I was in Highschool it would have been a constant barrage of insults and getting tripped in the halls if you were a dude and sperged over this show this much.

Then again I went to a small HS out in the country so maybe it's different and these kids go to larger ones where they don't have to worry about it. Still just....damn.

When I was in school you would simply be labelled a "faggot" if you were a boy who liked a TV show geared towards girls, and you would remain a "fag" until you left.

It kinda bugs me that they would reference an R-rated film in a show for little girls.

Wait, that's real? Not a fan edit?

In either case, it's not that strange to see Rated R film references in kid cartoons. I do believe Powerpuff Girls had a Big Lebowski reference too but it was a lot more subtle.

Powerpuff girls (if I remember correctly from watching it as a kid while waiting for ed, edd, n eddy) made the prison rape of the monkey guy a running joke. I think a Big Lebowski reference is fairly tame.

Hell, had PPG come a dozen years later in the age of the internet i suspect it may have gained the same insane fandom that MLP has now

It does, there just aren't quite as many as with MLP.

There already is one who thinks that Bubbles from the Powerpuff Girls is hot. No, not joking.

So PPG may of had an insane fandom but not as many as MLP???? I wonder how that would of played out.

"You're making fun of me for liking a wholesome children's show about the importance of getting along with people? I'll fucking kill you!"

That fucking Holocaust picture with Rainbow Dash pasted into it, and the "history major"'s gushing reaction to it, made me so goddamn angry.

New anti-bullying measures installed. Plus kids are too distracted by their cell phones nowadays to notice.

Granted, there is more acceptance nowadays for liking cartoons. Back in HS, I knew this girl who did her final project in Computer class on Arthur. And one time some guy on the bus started singing the Dragon Tales theme and everyone got a kick.

For some, those were our child-hoods, turning on the tv to watch a rabbit mess with a hunter or some kind of animal thing going through school. I honestly wonder how far we came from the acceptance of cartoons.

You know I went through a phase when I was an older teen when I was complete enamored with a Canadian children's cartoon called Ruby Gloom. I found about it through tv tropes and just loved the art and look of it. Since it doesn't air in the U.S (sadly) I had to find episodes of it through youtube and I loved it. I liked the character, art, atmosphere and thought the theme song was catchy as hell.

However, I would have never pulled off the shit that half these bronies pulled off for liking a kid's cartoon. LIke complaining about persecution and building a life around it. For me watching Ruby Gloom was something that was just fun for me. Seriously, it was just a cartoon and that was all. If you want to like a kid's cartoon that's perfectly fine, but building your life around it and claiming that you are somehow being persecuted for it is going too damn far.

That I agree with. I don't see a problem with buying something related to show for whatever reason (it looks good, you like the character etc.), nor do I see problem with making fan-stuff (making it because it amuses you etc.) but when you literally have to make a show the center of your life, you have to think on why it is a problem. Just because you make your life revolve around the show doesn't mean the creators or the company should bow down and kiss your bum just because you claim to be the biggest number one fan. It's annoying to them to hear such people whine about something from the show just because they don't agree with it (Equestria Girls, Twilight Alicorn). As for the "persecution", think to yourself "Why do some people not like me? I say love and tolerate. What? No, I didn't push your daughter because wanted the coloring book, I just told her to blow me." These types of bronies goes to show how crazy a fan-base can be.

One thing I've noticed while lurking is the anger some bronies have when the show does something minor that doesn't agree with the bronies' world building. "They gave this background a different name than we did!" It's like they think they own the show or something. And Hasbro is only egging them on by accepting some names. I mean, Derpy? Shouldn't someone in charge have taken 5 minutes to look online to see what the name meant?

Yeah, the moment an episode shows something that violates their head-canon is the moment some bronies go berserk in anger. Despite how annoying it is to hear them rage, it can be funny seeing how much their jimmies have been rustled.

I love the big adult following online Arthur still has. I love that we can make fun of the show on tumblr, or make Arthur youtube poops without someone popping a fissure about it.

It's as if the bronies think that just because they're obsessed with a show for six-year-olds, they should adopt the maturity and social skills of a six-year-old.

I'd say that sounds like Chris, except Chris never evolved past the maturity and social skills of a six-year-old.
