oh, uhhh... shitThis is I think the most current one.
It's a collection of the recordings, not just one of them.oh, uhhh... shit
eleven whole gigs?
well I'll certainly bookmark that at least
Yeah, I assume it has something to do with Jim Mallon.I thought that was just a live event thing, are there cams?
also regarding "lolconner" watching Sons of Hercules - Land of Darkness at the moment and they mention "guh-laahh-guh" which is apparently boomer-ese for Galaga
I may be telling the story wrong because I'm a dumb drunken asshole on the onlines, but as far as I recall Jim Mallon was a colossal cuntrag about the MST ownership up until a daughter of his died/almost died and then he finally realized the error of his ways and sold his shit to Joel.
Back in the days of The Film Crew, legends (as I recall them) say that after the stuff that was made (for Rhino) Jim made it explicitly clear that their choice was The Film Crew or the MST3k Home Video Rights
he tried in his own unique Jim Mallon-y wayYeah, I assume it has something to do with Jim Mallon.
It's too bad because like I said a 2000s MST3K reboot would have garnered a lot of attention, a real wasted opportunity and it's kind of crazy that Mallon somehow didn't realize the opportunity and cash in.
Yes! I was just about to mention that but forgot.he tried in his own unique Jim Mallon-y way
I think that 's more or less accurate. I believe he lost his daughter, which was a real tragedy, and then went into counseling. I don't think he wants to have anything to do with MST3K, which is probably for the best. But it's also kind of sad. As integral as Joel was in the early days of the show, so too was Mallon. It would have just been one of many ideas floating around in Joel's head. Mallon provided the outlet for his vision.I may be telling the story wrong because I'm a dumb drunken asshole on the onlines, but as far as I recall Jim Mallon was a colossal cuntrag about the MST ownership up until a daughter of his died/almost died and then he finally realized the error of his ways and sold his shit to Joel.

yeah I recall being excited about the 'THE BOTS ARE BACK!!!' postcard I got from being in the info club since Joel's days and then the amazing levels of disappoint when it actually droppedYes! I was just about to mention that but forgot.
That was his attempt to cash in on MST3K's attention at that time, just crazy.
Anyone with a half a brain would have pitched a revival to Sci Fi Channel or Comedy Central but instead we got... that, a real galaxy brained move, to be sure.
yeah I think she died but I'm not a hundred percent sure, and I def respect the idea of "I fronted a fuckton of money to you randos to make this shit happen so I own a major cut"I think that 's more or less accurate. Yeah, I remember everyone dunking on those flash animations back then.yeah I recall being excited about the 'THE BOTS ARE BACK!!!' postcard I got from being in the info club since Joel's days and then the amazing levels of disappoint when it actually dropped

but in hindsight it's really noticeable how the collaborative work became less as various talents went out their separate ways
yeah I go back to cable season 1 and of all the disappoint I have ever been (including Netflix Science Theater 3000) it was those that was the most disappointYeah, I remember everyone dunking on those flash animations back then.
I'm sorry to hear he lost his daughter but it sounds like Jim Mallon cutting ties with MSTK3K was best for everyone.
That's I think Bill Corbett and Conor Lastowka's influence. Mike is too Christian to sperg about Gamergate. Kevin seems like an old-school liberal, I'm sure he has no love for GG but I doubt it's on his radar. Not a fan of rifftrax. They try to jam in too many jokes and alot fall flat. I love mst3k because it's just a super comfy experience. Also I heard like two gamer gate jokes on rifftrax so these guys were really upset about gamer gate for some odd reason.
From what I understand, Jim Mallon was pretty much the only one getting royalties from the box sets and merchandise. I think it's less creative conflicts than the fact most of the people who worked on the show got screwed over. Mike Nelson wrote a Facebook post explaining that while he loved his time on the show, he was very much a hired gun and it wasn't his thing, which is why he wasn't in the reboot. The making of the MST3K movie also put a strain on relations amongst the production staff, or so I've heard. Mallon apparently saw getting the MST3K film off the ground and successful as a means of getting into producing more movies. And the whole crew having to deal with the Hollywood types, having their vision of things being truncated and dumbed down and eventually only getting a minimal theatrical release didn't help.
That's why I think Joel is a stand up guy. He immediately started letting RiffTrax sell MST3K episodes to help right that wrong once he got the license back. Unfortunately those episodes have been sold and resold more times than a 45yr old whore. Between DVD's, the original Kickstarter Rewards/Add-ons (one of which included 87 episodes), and good old YouTube it's amazing anyone pays for them anymore. From what I understand, Jim Mallon was pretty much the only one getting royalties from the box sets and merchandise. Kevin apparently doesn't write, so he just delivers what's given to him. I think the writers are just Mike, Conor, Bill, and Sean Thomason. Sean seems like a chill dude, so any of the stuff that makes your eyes roll is likely either Conor or maybe a bit of Bill. Conor seems like an okay guy from what I've heard on Mike and Conor's book podcast, but he can't not insert awkward game (or GamerGate) references into any discussion. That's I think Bill Corbett and Conor Lastowka's influence. I remember once participating in a rifftrax Q&A where the answers were given on twitter. It was really awesome to see Mike & Kevin reply when my question got chosen! That's I think Bill Corbett and Conor Lastowka's influence. Mike is too Christian to sperg about Gamergate. Bill Corbett is an out of control leftist nut job. Just peruse his Twitter account. He bumps from lefty talking point to lefty talking point. One week it's "No war with Iran" in his bio after we blew up that scumbag Irananian general. The next he's sperging about Covid. They say never meet your heroes, I suppose they should addend that to say "or read their Twitter".
Conor Lastowka seems like an okay guy but I have no doubt he's a lefty. Not as bad as Corbett. But he did once talk about going through old Rifftrax and doing some 1984-style editing of "insensitive" material.
You never know if they're going to be edited...That's why I think Joel is a stand up guy. That's a shame, as I love the MST3K movie, which also holds a special place in my heart as for years it was the only MST3K content I was able to watch thanks to airing on cable movie channels, before I got into DVDs and YouTube rips of old TV episodes. The making of the MST3K movie also put a strain on relations amongst the production staff, or so I've heard. It's so weird to me because, and I understand this is purely my personal perspective, but since the Sci Fi Channel was where I first saw the show I always assumed Mike Nelson was the brainchild behind it all, years later I researched the entirely history of the show and learned that it started with Joel, but for the longest time I never knew it had been hosted by anyone else other than Mike Nelson, so it's weird for me to think of him actually being a "gun for hire" the whole time. From what I understand, Jim Mallon was pretty much the only one getting royalties from the box sets and merchandise. It would be if there wasn’t a ridiculous monthly fee.You know, reading up on it Gizmoplex sounds like a great idea, even if the return of the Netflix cast isn't super thrilling.
But the idea of them putting old episodes on there is, would it really be possible for them to make all or at least most of the episodes available on there? That'd be pretty amazing.
