What’s the mentality in backing this time around? “Oh, the just weren’t given enough time by Netflix to settle into their roles, surely they funny if given enough of a chance” (to be fair, I’m not even sure Joel wants the Netflix cast anymore judging by the fact that the new production format will rotate between featuring those guys, and the cast of the most recent MST3K live tour (who is completely different, with a new female test subject (Emily) and completely different voices for Tom and Crow.) Not only that, Joel is planning to reprise his character to host 2 new episodes with the classic series cast. (I believe it’s josh Weinstein as Tom and bill Corbett as crow.) its pretty clear that’s it’s a “throw everything all at once and see what sticks and is popular with the fans.”strategy. that’s the case, then I could potentially see Jonahs days being numbered. TBH...)

I believe I mentioned earlier that I saw Joel riff on the live tour and he still has it. He probably thinks he'd look like a dick to fire Jonah but honestly I think it would be better if he stepped into creative more. You'll see this with hockey GM's who were once coaches, getting the itch to fire the struggling current coach and get back onto the bench. At times it's necessary, and I'd say given the lackluster critical reception of NuMst3k this is one of those times.

I didn't back it this time, but I'd be interested to see if they go completely woke. Comedy is more or less dead right now, and it ain't going to start pumping back to life with that wishy washy/woke writing crew and cast. I will say they stayed their hand pretty well in the two seasons, probably Joel's influence. But now that silence is violence I can see a whole lot of snide, anti-police and anti-Republican jokes.

I think Mad Monster is the worst movie they ever did. Terrible print, muffled sound, horrible characters with a symapthetic protagonist manipulated into murdering children. And a sound track that makes Depth Dwellers sound like a John Williams score. Nothing redeemable about that movie at all.

I personally have a soft spot for the 50s/60s teen exploitation films they did. Girls Town, The Violent Years, The Beatniks, The Girl from Lovers Lane, and probably the most self-explanatory Teenage Crime Wave, they're good schlocky fun for me. I still get a chuckle every time I think of Big Stupid.

If you liked Eegah, as well, you should check out the Arch Hall, Sr./Jr. oeuvre. None of the other films are riffed, but they're fun all on their own.

One movie I for sure did not agree with being riffed, was "Danger: Diabolik". It's a fab film, and MST3K is good when they rip on Joe Don Baker, or corny juvenile delinquent exploitation films, or so on, not stuff like this.

Well, let's not get too crazy. "Danger: Diabolik"
was good for an MST3K movie but I'm not sure I'd call it fabulous. If anything it was competently made but not very inspiring or original. Slightly boring, too.

Diabolik is pretty good by MST3K standards, but it’s still cheesy enough that it being featured on the show isn’t some kind of travesty.

I wish they would riff a Godfry Ho movie.

I'm gonna disagree with you here on Danger Diabolik" It's an amazing film. Mario Bava was given a 3 million dollar budget ... he talked DeLaurentis down to under 1 Million to make it. Plus, if you watch the fully restored wide screen version.. it really does pop out.

I Accuse My Parents, while not from the 50's/60's, is another syrupy teen drama that's a hoot. It's possibly my favorite Joel episode.

I'm a big fan of The Girl in Lover's Lane too. I don't think it's a bad movie really, it just has a goofy ending that wraps up way too fast and cleanly. "DANNY LIKES YA, MISTER!"

I wonder how many rewrites it was before they changed the ending from the obvious one of "Big Stupid gets killed, Danny runs back home by himself"
I like how Joel and the Bots were kinda low key about pointing out how not-very-low-key gay Danny and Big were.

but yeah I Accuse My Parents was a fun little weird thing, like a "the talkies begin to sing!" era movie made about a decade and half past the expiration of the genre

I think "I Accuse my Parents" was one of Joel's favorite episodes from his time on the show.
