Just watched the Rifftrax of the 1995 Gumby movie, which seems to bemuse the Riffers with it's weirdness. Though they are annoyed by Gumby, calling him a "dick" and calling him out for two songs, one that plays near the end as sung by a Gumby groupie named Tara as part of a music video and then the ending theme, that seem devoted to kissing his "green butt". I mean, according to the lyrics Gumby going "this way and that" is in itself supposedly awesome.

The plot, such as it is, involves Gumby and his band made up of his fellow generic guitar rock playing clay abominations throwing a benefit concert for local farmers being foreclosed upon by the Blockheads, and the Blockheads go after Gumby's dog Lowbelly after seeing him weep tears that turn into pearls and...well as the Guys say, any of the scenarios presented in stills during the end credits would have made for a better movie than something about "farm loans".

Gumby got a genuine laugh out of me when they drive up to the three grandmas passed out in the road after just rescuing a grandma who had passed out in the road. Perfect comedy beat.

Also listened to the latest episode of 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back, as Nelson and Lestowka start in on "Modelland", Tyra Banks' attempt at a YA novel that's a nonstop barrage of campiness and forced surrealism and grotesqueries, that is obviously biting on various "inspirations" like Harry Potter and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and others but does so in batshit insane ways. It looks like a rough ride.

In the latest Kickstarter update, Joel revealed that they will be riffing at least one black and white movie this season. He didn’t reveal which movie, but said it was made in 1961. He also clarified why the Netflix seasons didn’t have any black and white movies, stating that it had nothing to do with Netflix’s requests, but rather Joel’s own concerns about potential new viewers being turned off by black and white movies, as well as how they would look compared to a flashy Netflix original like Stranger Things.

I pre-ordered the Riff for Face/Off and I'm glad I did, While the action sequences were pretty great and I always appreciate Woo approaching material with complete emotional sincerity, what soured me on the movie back when was Travolta, whose presence post Pulp Fiction career revival just pointed out how much better movies where without him, in general.

(big speedboat crash near the end sends Cage and Travolta's characters flying through the air)
"This depicts their career trajectories post Face/Off."
(speedboat slams into the ground and explodes)
CORBETT: "That's Gotti"

I wonder if there's beer on the sun

What really makes Castle unwatchable is the print. It had some pretty cool fight scenes IIRC.

Unlike Agent From H.A.R.M - the globe-trotting spy movie that hangs around that one beach house.
I watched Agent from H.A.R.M. ..unriffed.. and wow.. we made our own riffs. It is fun watching in the raw...but not recommended

there's some stuff I've watched raw after they were on MST, Humanoid Woman, most of the toku, Moon Zero Two, a mess of others. got my copy of raw Manos from Sinister Cinema in the days of vhs, iirc the source that BBI got it from
there's a few things I've seen before they were on MST. Squirm, Robot Monster, Mole People, Gorgo, Screaming Skull, The Time Travelers, Star Crash, Land That Time Forgot, saw the Puerto Rico short in school, too. It was after MST was an established thing but before that episode, so I was already being an obnoxious fuck heckling things at school. It was neat to see I was mostly on their track of "are not here" "are desperately needed" "to anywhere else" and so forth.

I'm still amazed that the lead in that movie only died this past January.

More unbelievably, he was still in his 30's when he did Agent from H.A.R.M. Everyone back then looked 10 years older than they actually were.

in other "this probably means I'm old af" there's a rifftrax where they make a reference to megaupload
is this how people who enjoy black tar heroin felt when mst made explicit references to it?
edit for other things in Megaforce they did one of those way too fucking long rifftrax bits but the punchline included hitler snorting coke and saying "ach now dat ist purity!" which basically single-handedly redeems a couple of decades of unfunny way too fucking long rifftrax bits

RT Harry Potter And The Last Movie Part One
"Give my tapes of Art Bell to David Icky!"
so what are some other great instances of "you're clearly reading a joke somebody else wrote"
I recall plenty over the years for everybody, MST, RT, CT, MST Revival, but I don't focus on them enough to have a command off the top of my head.

I always tried to figure it out in MST3K. Pretty much any tennis reference is Mike's, as he is a noted tennis fan. I always particularly liked the "I'm having hard enough time!" Ivan Lendl reference that made its way into a couple. In Hobgoblins there's also a "Ivan Lendl lookalike Contest?" riff.

Most other sports references are likely Paul Chaplin. Reading the ACEG I get the feeling amongst the writers he was the biggest sports fan, particularly baseball.

Any reference inferring Republicans are fascists, authoritarians, etc could have come from a couple of people. But the most likely candidate is Frank, as he is an absolute lunatic leftist in real life. Conversely I have the feeling any of the comparatively gentle jibes at the Clintons or Ted Kennedy may have come from Mike, the only conservative in the room.

Weird, esoteric references to 60's kids shows are probably squarely Joel. "Supercarrr"! Even I didn't know what that was until looking it up, and I'm old.

I just want to know who had the fascination with the "Kathy" comic strip. "Achhhh!"
