If you mean something like alimony, that's not generally possible under Quebec's current system since the Eric v. Lola Supreme Court decision. Here is an overview of how common law marriage works upon separation- generally payments to a common law spouse happen in a case where there is unjust enrichment- for example, a stay at home parent who sacrificed their own career advancement for the sake of the family, a spouse who worked for their spouse's company for free or for a much lower salary than they would usually receive, a person who put their spouse through medical school and who was broken up with after their partner found a high paying job. I would be very surprised if being a deformed boytoy to lonely fats qualified when he didn't suffer any changes from moving in with Deedee as there was no career for him to sacrifice or business/schooling for him to invest in that resulted in Deedee benefiting unduly upon separating.

Quebec is not a common law jurisdiction in terms of property rights.

A few provinces in Canada do have Family Law Acts which state after X period of cohabitation a couple is considered common law, but Quebec is not one of them.

In Quebec, only couples who have kids wind up with interests in a non-marital property and income belonging to their partner.

Many Canadians don't understand this about their own provinces and often think living with a partner for long enough without being on the deed or mortgage of a property entitles them to a 50 percent interest in the property when they break up. It does not.

There are cases that can be made for the non owning partner to have a "constructive trust" in the "shared" property. But it is a hard case to make.

Nader would have to demonstrate he paid at least half the mortgage for the majority of his stay in thr condo, he would have to show he enriched the property in some way to his own detriment, and a few other factors I have forgotten since law school 10 plus years ago. What I do remember is common law partners who had borne and raised 3 kids for their partner who owned the home, and put a lot of work into the home, and stayed out of the job market so the working partner could have an illustrious career have had a hard time securing a constructive trust from the courts. When the purpose of the constructive trust was to aid partners (usually women) who had not been legally married to their partner of day 30 years, had borne and raised his kids, stayed at home, kept the house and done all the childcare, and been the trophy wife for advancing his business and career and he trades her in for a younger model and does not want to split any property interests or income with her after he leaves. This is what happened in Quebec when the dude who created Cirque de Soleil left the mother of his kids who he had been with for almost 20 years as common law.

Quebec may have updated their provincial family law since then...but I have not heard as much. In Canada we have a federal Divorce Act that only applies to legally married couples who divorce, and it states people who are legally married have a 50 percent interest each in the marital home upon end of the marriage. Regardless of which spouse bought or paid for it.

But common law couples are governed by provincial family law legislation when they break up. So unless Quebec changed its law to include childless couples who cohabitate for a specific period of time...Nads gets nada.

I generally agree with what you've said, the only point I'd need clarification on is the pension thing- I think I recall that depending on how long they end up living together and what type of pension/retirement plan she has going on, he might be entitled to some portion of the money she put there during the life of the union, but it's likely to be a negligible amount because I can't imagine this going on for too much longer.
