And what do they need 50 grand for? Jesus. I wonder how much of that is going to our boy.
They need 50 grand because they would like to make a documentary with $4,000 and keep $46,000 as profit.
Or pull a Zoe Quinn and never actually release or make the product and just keep the cash.
If the director really wanted to do a documentary about speedrunners, there are plenty more who are much more engaging and charismatic than Cosmo.
That's true, but Cosmo is really the only speedrunner that I can think of that's had a large "rise and fall" considering how long he had been doing it, how much of a speedrun/streaming pioneer he was, and how tragic it all is that he ended up where he is now.
We make fun of him (and rightly so) but he did some really cool shit - he helped to normalize a lot of shit in 2009-2014 and at one point he was one of Twitch's biggest streamers. I saw the number $80,000 a year get thrown around, but twitch was really young at that point. For a comparison point, one of the (former) biggest steamers on twitch, Ninja, is believed to have been making $6,000,000+ a year in 2018, a mere 4 years later - or seventy five times as much as Cosmo.
I think the documentary is going to basically be a rip off of "King of Kong" (a documentary about Donkey Kong's world record) - where it isn't about Donkey Kong and more about "look how fucking weird these guys, Billy Mitchell in particular, are". The documentary then wasn't set when Billy Mitchell got the (very controversial) record, it's set when someone is trying to take it and Billy Mitchell is a just weird guy with a weird tie who's trying to sell hot sauce to people.
