And what do they need 50 grand for? Jesus. I wonder how much of that is going to our boy.

They need 50 grand because they would like to make a documentary with $4,000 and keep $46,000 as profit.

Or pull a Zoe Quinn and never actually release or make the product and just keep the cash.

If the director really wanted to do a documentary about speedrunners, there are plenty more who are much more engaging and charismatic than Cosmo.

That's true, but Cosmo is really the only speedrunner that I can think of that's had a large "rise and fall" considering how long he had been doing it, how much of a speedrun/streaming pioneer he was, and how tragic it all is that he ended up where he is now.

We make fun of him (and rightly so) but he did some really cool shit - he helped to normalize a lot of shit in 2009-2014 and at one point he was one of Twitch's biggest streamers. I saw the number $80,000 a year get thrown around, but twitch was really young at that point. For a comparison point, one of the (former) biggest steamers on twitch, Ninja, is believed to have been making $6,000,000+ a year in 2018, a mere 4 years later - or seventy five times as much as Cosmo.

I think the documentary is going to basically be a rip off of "King of Kong" (a documentary about Donkey Kong's world record) - where it isn't about Donkey Kong and more about "look how fucking weird these guys, Billy Mitchell in particular, are". The documentary then wasn't set when Billy Mitchell got the (very controversial) record, it's set when someone is trying to take it and Billy Mitchell is a just weird guy with a weird tie who's trying to sell hot sauce to people.

80k a year as a semi-popular streamer isn't unreasonable. A guy I know makes about 100k between Twitch subs. donations and an e-sports team membership. When you're popular and you build a devoted fan base, people will throw money at you as a streamer... assuming you produce content. Cosmos issue is mainly that he stopped producing content, and thought people liked him, not what he was doing. Honestly, if he had kept streaming through his troonsition, he probably would have taken a hit, but he'd still be making a living.

A couple things puzzle me about this.

First, why are they doing Kickstarter and not Indigogo? They will not reach $50,000, and if they don't they will not get any of the donated money. Even if Cosmo is stupid and delusional enough to think he'll totally make that money, why would this production team, which has supposedly worked on things as high up as Frontline and Anthony Bourdain, make such a dumb business decision?

Secondly, the first time I looked at the Kickstarter it was late evening in the US and at roughly $3,500. I wake up and it's jumped up to $7,000. Unless there's a lot of Euro or Asian fans who just love Cosmo, it's kind of weird that it made that much money in the dead of night on a weekday.

Last, the fact that it's made this much, and off of relatively few backers is a little weird to me. Since I've been watching it this morning it's updated three times- once for a roughly $300 donation, and twice with a roughly $100 donation. We know Cosmo has a about 30 hardcore orbiters who probably would drop that kind of money for the ugly ghoul, but he should have burned through those by now. You would expect his main supporters right now to be other trannies. Except troons never drop that amount of money for anything, even when they take time to stop their own ebegging, and Cosmo is not that high up in the tranny community.

The only thing I can thing of is the that the real plan is for the production team to essentially ebeg their SanFran techie journalism allies to give them monies and Cosmo is just a tranny sticker to justify it. Regardless, I find the situation very

I love the laser focus on all the death threats a little past that point. As if they were somehow the only thing people were putting out, or even the majority.

Ooooofffff.... I guess they stopped filming before everything went nuclear. The ending of that trailer points to a potential happy ending and soy oh soy were they wrong.

thats because d-gurl & cosmo aren't really together currently so this documentary is pretty much pre recorded compilations to make us think narcissbutt is still relavent 🤣

oh on the trailer anyone know the song on the 3:40 mark & https://www.instagram.com/p/B0Jxa8fntV3/?igshid=14gwwbecyga7a this too

I'm almost convinced this is some kind of money laundering scheme. The optics for this are too sketchy, how can an obscure and niche documentary about a long forgotten e-celeb get over 10,000 usd over night while its official twitter can barely break 2 digits when it comes to likes and retweets?

Either one of Narcissa's insane white knights, which I'm sure there are still a couple of out there (including the tard who shitted all up this thread), or one of the producers putting their own money in to up the chances of the KS succeeding and make it look good (as in, not pathetic) to give it some credibility for other would-be donors.

It's neither hard to imagine or uncommon. Plenty of the biggest Kickstarters ever done have had a sudden extremely large donation near the end to make it happen. Oh look who had some money all along but would rather the Internet pay for most of it!

Honestly, going to "money laundering" to explain it is a bit exceptional. As if there aren't better ways to launder money out there.

Yeah, it’s not out of the question that KS creators and their loved ones would seed the pot a little to get contributions from others rolling in. People on the fence are more inclined to donate if they see others contributing and the ball rolling.

The fact that they put it on Kickstarter instead of guaranteed-money Indiegogo at least paints a picture of good intentions, albeit misplaced. Not that KS creators have never scammed people before (hi Zoe and Kiva!), but it’s a little bit easier to give the benefit of the doubt to KS projects than Indiegogo ones. Until shown otherwise, the filmmakers come across as doe-eyed people who honestly thought Cosmo makes for a compelling documentary. It’s a dumb decision, but it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re bad people.

Could ultimately be a scam still, but like what Wake me up posted above me, there are easier scams out there, and you don’t need to interact with Cosmo and hear his nonsense drivel disguised as deep thoughts, to boot.

I'm not sure why anyone would donate to kickstarter this. But again I dont really see why anyone would donate to a youtuber or streamers.

Someone with the time and effort could quite easily put enough content to make chris chan level documentary or deconstruction video, not necessarily with the vast amount of stuff behind chris, but easily enough to document a relatively decent rise and fall of Cosmo. Its sketchy when people try to raise money for things like this on youtube personalities

I don't know who exactly this Jane Wagner girl is, but looking at other projects she's backed explains a lot. She supported a film about gamergate and another one that has to do with the US/Mexico border, and a musical about...muslim futurism (???).

This must be her attempt to break into the woke film circle. Then it's only natural to pick the guy who lost his mind and trooned out while losing all his supporters. This probably won't get funded, but it would be kind of interesting to see just how skewed this documentary would turn out.

Including Narc's dream come true - a clone of herself.

Trans 20 years ago: I'm a woman in a man's body, I can't express myself as a gay man, so must become a woman in order to date men.

Trans now: I can't get laid as a beta male so must turn my fantasies into claiming to be a lesbian and fuck other men poorly dressed as women.

Cosmo thought he could pretend to be a lesbian and is now prison gay, just like everybody who thinks these shortcuts will work.

ratings are enabled and the comments don't seem to have been censored
Haven't read it through yet but made an image archive just in case. As far as I can tell these are all the comments so far. I forgot to expand the description but, as luck would have it, there's nothing there besides the link and the "gaming" category.

(Edit: now that I've skimmed through the comments, there's really nothing much to see 🤷‍♀️ but hey an archive's never bad.)

Yeah, as far as Youtube comments go they're really tame. Mostly just people being honest and saying that Cosmo's downfall wasn't because of the trans thing, it was more that he was arrogant, rude and did weird/boring shit on stream. But the comments go against the whole narrative of the documentary by the looks of it so I'd guess that they will censor those soon.
