Off-topic but;

Not quite new to yet another motorsport and let me say, modern NASCAR kinda bums me out. It's like modern WWE although with less virtue signaling and shaming the old fanbase

Listening to the current commentators (Bowyer and Gordon) makes me wonder what they actually think of all the changes that are happening around them.

Or hell, Harvick and the Busch brothers since they are still racing (Kurt injury notwithstanding) and have to watch their sport die a slow death.
This is kind of my take. I can't believe they're as OMG EXCITED as they put on.

Well, it was a good run, old school racist bros...

Can't say Bubba has 0 talent or call him the male Danica Patrick anymore. I'm thinking of staying away from racing internet for the next few days- the Twitter and Reddit smugness is going to be off the charts. I'm dreading the inevitable Darian Gillam victory lap like he fucking won something.

Well that was clearly Bubba having a Nigga Moment.
Cat 5 chimpout. We knew it was coming. He has had incidents in the past where he tried to fight someone at Bowman Gray and got led away by cops, and an instance where he fought someone at a concert. Both expunged off the internet, of course.

As predicted, Reddit is pearl-clutching. Sure, Steve Phelps' golden boy just threw a temper tantrum and hooked another driver at full speed on a 1.5 miler in a car that's known to cause concussions, took his own innocent teammate out of the race, attacked the guy he sent into the wall at full speed and shoved a Nascar official, but won't someone think of the Facebook comments!

In other news, when your biggest nuthugger is saying you deserve punishment, you fucked up bad. I expect Wallace will be suspended a couple races, but something in the back of my head is telling me he won't be punished, because...you know.

Bubba got a one race suspension and it feels like he got off easy. The suspension should have been for the wreck alone since it put the the 5 on a course for the same impact that's taken 2 drivers out of multiple races and caused an early retirement if not for hitting the 20 on the way up. The shoving, crossing the track, pushing the official etc. All warrant fines I think.

It's really amazing to think how Bubba managed to make himself look like the biggest asshole possible here. In the car he's driving because his teammate is out for a concussion, the day after he retires because of it, takes out one of the most talented/popular drivers and his fellow Toyota driver going for a championship and proceeds to do nothing but make an ass out of himself outside the car, both on the track and being interviewed. I think the only worse look would have been if Larson had actually gotten hurt and he was there swinging into the car on a man with a head injury, which I can see happening tbh.

And - though I know maybe he didn't know that at the time - Kyle didn't even try to get into him. And Bubba was going to have an okay rest of the race if he didn't chimp out and hook Kyle.

I really feel for Bell because he clutched the last round and is proving he's the Jamie McMurray type of driver who may not win often, but does when it matters, and then he becomes the victim of the "you got wrecked, well, say goodbye to your title hopes" moment that's way too common with this retarded championship system. What makes it worse is that in this case it's not even an eliminated driver with a bone to pick ruining his race and title aspirations out of spite like Kenseth and Elliott did. It was the ostensible "Most Popular Nascar Driver" (X) activating his inner baboon at the worst time possible.

Bubba should have at least got two races + a fine because that's what Kenseth got for punting Logano at a much slower track where no one was hurt. Hooking someone on a 1.5 miler could end a career since these cars are such concussion machines- I think Harvick said that. I hate to put on my tinfoil hat, but I think that if there wasn't such an enormous outcry, especially from Wallace fans and "preferred demographics", he wouldn't have gotten any punishment at all.

All he had to do was lift. It was the middle of the race. There's no point fighting so hard for positions when you know you're getting a mandatory caution in 30 laps or so and you can go for it again. Say what you want about cheatin' yoders, but ever since the 23 and 45 swapped that car's been a rocket. I do think it has quite a bit to do with the higher ups turning a blind eye, but that's how racing works- if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying. Bubs was on track for a top 5 and decided to ruin his own finish as well by chimping out.

We back.

But really I just wanted to say: Ty Gibbs is a spoiled little bitch.
It would be funny if he was the latest driver to fall victim to having his title chances ended by another driver with a bone to pick and nothing to lose.

It would be very funny. I'm waiting for Joe Gibbs to park Jones next weekend for just this reason. Granpa doesn't seem to give no fucks about optics - or ethics - now.

Then there's what Ross did. Haven't seen anything like that since Zanardi did The Pass at Laguna Seca. For some reason I've picked up a real dislike of Hamlin so that part was fun too.

Hamlin is easily dislikable imo. I've never really liked him. He always struck me as the one trying to be opinionated and a voice of reason amongst the veteran drivers but Happy Harvick already got him beat.

And you could argue that he's bit of a chump for never winning the championship but at the same time, Mark Martin never won one either but he's genuinely talented (and one of the cleanest drivers)

Joe Gibbs Racing co-owner Coy Gibbs, has passed away in his sleep, at the age of 49. I wouldn't want to imagine being in Ty Gibbs's shoes right now, going from the highest of highs (winning a NASCAR Championship), to the lowest of lows, in less than 24 hours. And that also makes the 2nd son that Joe Gibbs has to bury too.
Terrible for them, truly. Went out on a high note, at least.

What nobody's saying but I will because it's crass and this is the Farms: I think this is one of the worst things that could happen to Ty and not just for the obvious reasons.

Between him and Joey winning titles...it truly is the darkest year for the sport.

All kidding aside, congrats to Lelgano and Ty and my condolences to the Gibbs family, although this won't stop me from wanting to see Chastain bulldoze Ty next year.

Today's race wasn't bad, IMO, but yeah. I really just can't get into Joey. Also this reminded me of how much the playoff format just kind of kills it for me. I don't think I'm gonna quit again, but 'you have to be good at this one highly specific track to be champion' is... just kind of meh.

Ty/Ross feud would be the war that could save NASCAR.

I hate the playoffs so much. Elliott threw one bad block in the opening stage, got junked and after a year of hard work and collecting wins and points he's 4th in the final standings because of that.

I think I've said it before in this thread but all they had to do was abandon the goofy 'first is just another place' points system they used (and weirdly _remains_), to emphasize winning. Instead we have.. That.

Cup with F1 points would be neat. But everyone has to get a participation trophy in the France world.
