Like every other sports league and company, theyre trying to appeal to as many as possible, which leads to conflicting messaging such as what you had mentioned.

Ah, so both the fans and corporate are retards. The fact NASCAR can’t even communicate limits on a road course properly just gives more fuel for Europeans to look at us as the hillbillies we probably are.

NASCAR management has been trying for years to rid their fanbase of the rednecks and turn it mainstream, with many different things. In the 2000s, it was the cookie cutter tracks and being all over mainstream ads. In the present day, it's shoving Bubba Wallace into everything and going racing at street circuits because Gen Zs like F1.

They've never managed to rid themselves of the rednecks. Every track outside the South just attracts its local flavor of redneck. And they've never managed to get blacks to give a shit no matter how hard they try to pander. I've seen more black people in Fuck Joe Biden t-shirts than in Bubba Wallace ones at NASCAR tracks.

Nobody goes for the racing other than the visitors. The hilarious video from the first year of Kyle Larson in his zipped up firesuit just... walking down a street with people on it and... he's just walkin'. Nobody's coming over to him, nobody's getting an autograph.

Even if you didn't look and know who he was - being then the hottest driver in Cup - this is a guy literally wearing a fucking billboard that says I AM A CUP SERIES CHAMPION on it. Nobody's there for the race. The locals want the party, and the rednecks didn't come up because who the hell wants to walk around downtown Chicago where you're not allowed to carry?

That's the thing about corpos who seek growth at all costs. They don't understand that trying to appeal to everybody just makes the whole thing appeal to nobody. There is no long-term planning involved and total contempt for the original base just goes to show that they don't even understand the product they are selling.

I do understand the point of having these street races because it's a proven concept and tends to bring out it's own set of driving skills needed for those knife fight in a phone booth situations. It's also substantially cheaper than doing what NASCAR did in it's peak and build yet another cookie-cutter oval in the cheapest land near [insert desired market here].

It also reminds me of what F1 drivers liked to do before Drive to Survive made them celebrities in the states. They enjoyed having their vacations in America because that way they could enjoy their wealth without having their fame attract all sorts of pests.

I still don't think the racing has been very good with the Gen 7, because nobody can pass in these cars on road racing. NASCAR seems dead-set on making it a permanent part of their schedule going forward, though. They can point to the big crowds and say "hey look, it was successful!" and conveniently leave out the fact that everyone came for the concerts, not the race, and nobody who came to Chicago has attended or even watched another race sense. Road America had 100,000 people show up who were actually there to watch cars go fast. As a side note, it's hilarious how NASCAR went to COTA thinking they would draw the urban millennial F1-loving crowd, only for nobody but Texas rednecks in massive trucks to show up.

COTA's at least got FIA Grade 1 facilities and has hosted pretty much everything there is so it is as logical of a destination as any for it. That said, having one in a full schedule is just enough to spice things up and you also do have to design it to fit into whatever sort of a race you want out of them. Maybe it's my F1 primacy speaking but passing being hard isn't that bad of a thing if you actually do need to be 100 percent on point every lap and have no margin for error. If I had to guess as an outsider looking in, the actual reason why NASCAR didn't like street races is because in the great states of extremely litigious karens, someone inevitably will throw a massive fit about it all and be the whiniest possible NIMBY about it all.

All that said, all they actually need to do is just keep it simple and not get stuck into gimmicks that nobody likes. Perhaps pay attention to how SRO has kept the GT3 field alive.

And I got to say too that is a pretty car to be in victory lane with a reputable driver.

Maybe this convinces NASCAR teams to give more rides to experienced Xfinity drivers like they used to instead of promoting teenagers who aren't old enough to drink because muh potential. Experienced sprint car/Truck/Xfinity driver comes in, he wins as soon as he gets into a car that's not a flaming dumpster on wheels.

If NASCAR just gets rid of the fucking stage cautions, I wouldn't care if they put five street tracks on the calendar and go to the Roval twice.

Jimmie Johnson was 25 pushing 26 with stadium truck experience with 4 years of the bush series with a shity team but made the most of it finishing in the top 10 in standings from 2000-2001. So hopefully your words come true cause I want to see drivers achieve from experience rather than it be given to them. Unless if they have extreme raw talent like that Connor Zilisch kid. Still though I can't get over that bro, 24 hour winner at Daytona when your 17.
 
There was a point in the race where I got really worried my joke about Bubba getting a championship was going to become possible, but thankfully the most racist man in NASCAR won instead. Congrats Larson!
A Bubba win is never going to happen until he learns how to back off the throttle. Even when the car is cheated up to fuck and back and the other yoders have strict orders to run defense for him, he'll always run the tires into the ground.

He's been racing in the Cup Series since 2017 and honestly if he had any chance of being an extremely high-caliber racer in NASCAR we would've seen signs of that by now.

He gets up front enough that we have to listen to the journos constantly claim he's about to break out.

He's in one of the top 10 best cars in the series and his teammate is a multi-race winner and championship contender every year, so his typical finish of 8th or 9th is exactly where he should finish. It's not uncommon to see cars running around that area play strategy to get to the front and grab stage points, knowing that they aren't going to win. He's not doing anything special. But he runs in the front for enough laps that we have to hear the media debate about "Will this be the year Bubba Wallace finally breaks out?" No, it will not. Because you said that the last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and so on. He's about to have been in the series for a decade, and he's in a great car. If he had potential, he would have shown it by now. Instead, all he's got is a rain "win" when Nascar called a race when the rain was stopping, and a win where his team owner was blatantly blocking for him.

At least YouTubers are finally starting to say that he needs to put up or shut up. The mainstream media is not.

Another driver who I cannot, for the life of me, understand why he gets hyped is Ryan Preece. He always gets talked about as having great potential despite accomplishing so little. He couldn't even win an Xfinity race in JGR equipment.
