Is there any official notice of his death, yet?

Even Google and Wikipedia are saying he's dead, but the Wikipedia doesn't even source that info.

Best I can find is this Newsweek article, saying the Journo called the US Attourney's Office, who confirmed Larsin's death (Newsweek/archive). But isn't there normally some primary, gov't source- A statement direct from the prison/hospital, or copy of the death certificate, or something? Not claiming any expertise on how this stuff usually works, but it seems wierd to me that the best we have is "trust me- this phone call totally happened". trashcan/puzzle-piece me, bitchez

In this case, I'm actually willing to trust an FRCP 48(a) motion by a federal prosecutor to a federal judge about a guy in custody of the Bureau of Prisons because the guy croaked as pretty solid evidence the dude is actually dead.

I'm mildly amused that it's "without prejudice." Do they seriously think the guy is going to come back as a zombie or something and they'll have to prosecute his reanimated corpse?

Apparently it's standard practice, it's still pretty funny.

Brian Laundrie's case was dismissed under FRCP 48(a) with prejudice. So I think it really depends on the office that does it. At any rate, it's not like it makes a difference. You can't have a court case called United States v. The Bloating, Rotten Corpse of Nathan Daniel Larson, after all, although it would be nice to think about for karmic reasons.

According to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office, he died of Wernicke’s Encephalopathy, neurological disease caused by a lack of vitamin B1. It can be caused by a number of factors, including alcoholism and fasting. They list his death as a suicide, but whether or not that denotes a hunger strike or a disease brought on by years of lonely alcoholism, is not known. Hopefully the full report comes out someday, it would be good for everybody to know how the monster died.

Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome

Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is a brain disorder due to vitamin B1 (thiamine) deficiency.

Causes

Wernicke encephalopathy and Korsakoff syndrome are different conditions that often occur together. Both are due to brain damage caused by a lack of vitamin B1.
Lack of vitamin B1 is common in people who have alcohol use disorder. It is also common in people whose bodies do not absorb food properly (malabsorption). This can sometimes occur with a chronic illness or after weight-loss (bariatric) surgery.
Korsakoff syndrome, or Korsakoff psychosis, tends to develop as Wernicke encephalopathy as symptoms go away. Wernicke encephalopathy causes brain damage in lower parts of the brain called the thalamus and hypothalamus. Korsakoff psychosis results from permanent damage to areas of the brain involved with memory.

Symptoms

Symptoms of Wernicke encephalopathy include:
Symptoms of Korsakoff syndrome include:
  • Inability to form new memories
  • Loss of memory, can be severe
  • Making up stories (confabulation)
  • Seeing or hearing things that are not really there (hallucinations)

Exams and Tests

Examination of the nervous/muscular system may show damage to many nerve systems:
  • Abnormal eye movement
  • Decreased or abnormal reflexes
  • Fast pulse (heart rate)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Low body temperature
  • Muscle weakness and atrophy (loss of tissue mass)
  • Problems with walk (gait) and coordination
The person may appear poorly nourished. The following tests are used to check a person's nutrition level:
  • Serum albumin (relates to person's general nutrition)
  • Serum vitamin B1 levels
  • Transketolase activity in red blood cells (reduced in people with thiamine deficiency)
Liver enzymes may be high in people with a history of long-term alcohol abuse.
Other conditions that may cause vitamin B1 deficiency include:
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Cancers that have spread throughout the body
  • Extreme nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (hyperemesis gravidarum)
  • Heart failure (when treated with long-term diuretic therapy)
  • Long periods of intravenous (IV) nutrition without receiving thiamine supplements
  • Long-term dialysis
  • Very high thyroid hormone levels (thyrotoxicosis)
A brain MRI may show changes in the tissue of the brain. But if Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome is suspected, treatment should start immediately. Usually a brain MRI exam is not needed.

Treatment

The goals of treatment are to control symptoms and to prevent the disorder from getting worse. Some people may need to stay in the hospital early in the condition to help control symptoms.
Monitoring and special care may be needed if the person is:
Vitamin B1 is usually given by injection into a vein or a muscle as soon as possible. This may improve symptoms of:
  • Confusion or delirium
  • Difficulties with vision and eye movement
  • Lack of muscle coordination
Vitamin B1 often does not improve loss of memory and intellect that occur with Korsakoff syndrome.
Stopping alcohol use can prevent more loss of brain function and damage to nerves. A well-balanced, nourishing diet can help, but it is not a substitute for stopping alcohol use.

Outlook (Prognosis)

Without treatment, Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome gets steadily worse, and can be life threatening. With treatment, it is possible to control symptoms (such as uncoordinated movement and vision difficulties). This disorder can also be slowed or stopped.

Possible Complications

Complications that may result include:
  • Alcohol withdrawal
  • Difficulty with personal or social interaction
  • Injury caused by falls
  • Permanent alcoholic neuropathy
  • Permanent loss of thinking skills
  • Permanent loss of memory
  • Shortened life span

When to Contact a Medical Professional

Contact your health care provider or go to the emergency room if you have symptoms of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, or if you have been diagnosed with the condition and your symptoms get worse or return.

Prevention

Not drinking alcohol or drinking in moderation and getting enough nutrition reduce the risk of developing Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome. If a heavy drinker will not quit, thiamine supplements and a good diet may reduce the chance of getting this condition, but the risk is not eliminated.

Alternative Names

Korsakoff psychosis; Alcoholic encephalopathy; Encephalopathy - alcoholic; Wernicke's disease; Alcohol use - Wernicke; Alcoholism - Wernicke; Thiamine deficiency - Wernicke

He got off easy. If he really had that before starting his fasting (I would bet it was a combo of both alcoholism and then probably made fatal by fasting), he probably forgot where he was every few minutes and why he was there. I hope that was as hellish as it sounds, because suddenly finding yourself in federal prison not knowing why every few minutes would be pretty awful.

Calorie malnutrition and Wernicke’s encephalopathy brought on by fasting sounds like he starved to death.
I think that's what happened. I was reading this article on PubMed about a woman who contracted the same disease by doing a water fast. These were the linked articles at the bottom of the page:

So yeah it looks like he hunger striked (struck?) himself to death. He probably didn't even mean to do it, just thought he could make a point and get released as a sovereign citizen or some fasggotry. Good riddance.

I was wondering how he had managed to starve himself to death where the prison system had him in the hospital and they would put him on fluids and even a feeding tube if necessary. I guess you could refuse treatment? But it sounds like his condition was fatal and advanced too far to be treatable so he earned himself a slow death while in psychosis the entire time. Rest In Piss Nathan Larson

He probably exacerbated some preexisting condition, maybe because of alcoholism, and kicked it over into full blown Wernicke-Korsakoff. Even if they'd saved him he'd probably have been permanently fucked. They can't reverse that, just stop continued damage. I'd guess he was too far gone before BoP doctors figured out what he had, or else they didn't figure it out until autopsy.

There's also the fact nobody gives a shit about one less chomo.

Happy to see that retard die.

I remember reporting him to PRQ.se (The hosting provider he used for months). They told me that Nathan said it was a "joke website" and they believed him for some reason. They don't have any remorse for hosting the website for him either, quite disgusting individuals. Unless police told them to keep the website up (Sometimes done in investigations to log/capture users of the website) I'm not sure why they allowed him to use their services. Also was sad to see that it took Nathan kidnapping a girl from his website for the police to actually care, something way worse could've happened and they knew about him for actual months.

Just adding this here for anyone curious as to why this idiot was able to keep his dumb website up for so long while it existed.

I assume the staff just sat around because they didn't want to save a pedophile.

I do know that his Rapey website keep getting it's domains revoked. I have no idea if he was using the same host, but the domain companies weren't having it.

Ex-politician and pedophile advocate dies by 'self-starvation' in Arizona prison

by Sky Palma
January 24, 2023

An ex-politician and pedophile advocate has killed himself in jail by self-starvation, The Kansas City Star reports.

Nathan Larson, 41, who ran a campaign in Virginia to legalize child pornography, died on September 18, 2022, while he was in an Arizona prison while receiving medical care. He was reportedly an inmate of Fresno County Jail, in California, "when he stopped eating."

He was being held on felony charges for soliciting child pornography and other offenses.

On June 21, Larson was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was treated with remdesivir. He continued to have "profound muscular weakness" and later was put a ventilator, which he was weaned off on August 14. His health continued to decline until his death.

"Further review of the medical records indicate discussion with the decedent and his sister confirm suicidal ideation with cessation of food and water approximately six weeks prior to admission into hospital," a report from the Maricopa County Medical Examiner stated. "It is also noted discussion with the sister and the decedent's attorney confirm prior suicidal ideations and attempts were made by the decedent by refusing intake of food and water."

"Based on the external examination findings and investigative history as available to me, it is my opinion that Nathan Daniel Larson, a 41-year-old male, died as a result of Complications of Protein Calorie Malnutrition and Wernicke's Encephalopathy. The manner of death is Suicide," the report added.

According to The Star's report, Larson, who is also a white supremacist, was extradited to Fresno after police learned he traveled from Virginia to California in 2020 to abduct a 12-year-old girl who he had groomed online.

BUZZ! WRONG!

Sad level of accuracy considering he was actually awaiting trial for kidnapping a child. Way to bury the lede you dumb fucks.

Also here's the archive: https://archive.ph/tPhr3

Incidentally, the Kansas City Star article got it wrong too, so this is a case of an error by one hack journalist getting propagated by others. It would have been easy enough to check, though. You should always independently fact-check instead of mindlessly parroting some other source.

You'll note solicitation of child pornography isn't even in the charges. One of the charges was actually receiving and distributing child pornography. Solicitation is what is called an inchoate crime, an incomplete attempt to commit a usually more serious crime. What he was charged with was actually completing the more serious crime.

Shame on Raw Story for this level of inaccuracy.
