Nebula / Standard Broadcast LLC - A Creator-Owned Streaming Service

I know almost nothing about Nebula, but I thought this might be relevant here. Liz Fong-Jones posted about some kind of drama between Nebula and CuriosityStream:

WTF were CuriosityStream doing killing the golden goose?

This was one of the easiest cancellations/purchases I've made in years given how much enjoyment I get out of the various Wendover Productions franchises, PhilosophyTube, Nile Red, TLDR News, and the list just goes on on and on and on.
This didn't have to happen to CuriosityStream, if they just continued to revshare with Nebula.

I'll leave it to the regulars here to figure out what's going on.

Ironically it was a video criticizing private equity firms, which are the only things seemingly keeping Nebula alive.
These faggot fanboys unironically think that Sam's video is such a threat to private equity that they will assassinate him like Boeing did to their whistleblowers.

Dr Glaucomflecken's TikTok videos on private equity in health care hit harder and are actually funny. The video was well produced but hardly groundbreaking. Like most of Nebula, it's more style than substance (though not inaccurate).

I guess this confirms that Jacob Geller is somehow in with breadtube, the dude plugs Nebula after the majority of his videos.

Despite being a fairly openly liberal jew I like Jacob Geller and he makes videos that feel salient to watch, but as soon as I saw PhilosophyTube was on Nebula I knew it had to be some circlejerky shit, they wouldn't participate in anything if it didn't make them feel like they're part of some elite social club.

Well she (Liz Fong-Jones, the dainty lady I mean) is making reference to gratis access, so it sounds like they're not doing the little deal where you get two for one anymore. The cancellations/purchases probably means they like Nebula and are ditching Curiosity Stream.

Of course, he was inspired by innuendo studios to make videos. His first video was capitalist present collectivist future a night in the woods video essay. Breadtube commies are like insects, they're everywhere and won't go away. I made a whole list on the breadtube thread long time ago, I'm sure there's more I missed.

I hated that video so much. I don't give a shit about private equity. The finance yuppies can all die in a fire for all I care. If NYC got nuked I'd think God finally decided enough was enough.

But the video was so fucking dishonest. The whole thing is reverse-survivorship bias. Oh, companies that get bought by Private Equity go bankrupt. Why were they bought by PE in the first place?
Private Equity buys failing companies and guts them? Could it be because these companies seek failing businesses and salvage them however it makes sense? Or are they just evil vampires who just buy and close down companies because they feed on misery?

Like what's supposed to be the business model? Buying a failing grocery chain and keeping it running business as usual as a charity?

In my experience of working for a company bought be PE, they just maximize short term profit by gutting personnel and maintenance spending, then sell the stock after a nice earnings report boosts the value.
They don’t just target failing companies, but also ones that are undervalued and easy to pump and dump.

In some cases it’s actually beneficial, but most of the time it dooms the company long term.

It’s like house flipping for companies. You put a nice new paint job on the house to distract from the roof leaking. (Because you refused to replace the roof)

Again, I'm not on a mission to defend American finance or anything.
PE investors could be agents of Satan on earth for all I care.

That wasn't the argument made in the video. The argument made in the video led me to the conclusion I posted.

I think the only channels in OP's list I still follow are Atlas Pro and WonderWhy, because their content hasn't been poisoned by breadtube garbage (yet). WonderWhy reminds me of classic RealLifeLore before he became a shill for Ukraine (and he did make a video, but it was only one), and I hope he stays that way. Atlas Pro fits my autistic niche of biology and geography, I don't know how political he is, but even his Twitter lacks controversial shit so I guess he just keeps it to himself like any sane person would.

There's many of them I don't know so I'm not sure if there's more (relatively) "sane" people there. Either way, I knew something was off with Nebula and its many shills.

Bright Sun Films appears to no longer be part of the Nebula stable and is not pictured on their creators page. He's been pushing his Patreon pretty hard recently and while his videos are still listed on his page on Nebula, the latest one is dated Feb 7, 2024 despite other videos being released on YouTube after that date. The creators page isn't entirely up-to-date; for example, it still lists the Musicalsplaining podcast started by Lindsay Ellis that ended months ago. Currently 161 creators are listed. Are there any others who have left for whatever reason?

ETA: Former Nebula creators also include Jill Bearup (fired due to Lindsay Ellis) and Tom Scott (retired)

They are bleeding out, slowly but surely. These are like the signs of a collapsing Soviet Union

So, admittedly the initial purpose of this thread has fallen pretty flat, mostly due to my complacency and circumstances.
However, I have an idea:
This thread gets retooled to be a community watch thread, for people not significant enough to have their own threads at the outset, and perhaps over time we can build a broader picture of the mechanisms of the site.

Thoughts?

I believe Nebula is just there to look pretty for a venture capitalist sap to go ahead and buy it, given what I heard about it over on Wendover Production's video. They even outright admitted to it, but given the economy and those bank failures I doubt that's going to go through.
Here's a propoganda piece about it, the said mentioned video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Alqt6RCEWdM&pp
