I could run it off hardware and resources I already own, delegate responsibility to people who understand the day-to-day bullshit and are craven enough for power to do it for free, pop adsense and a stripe account on for easy cheddar, and just let shit play out until it inevitably dies like all crazy tranny shit does. If he's making as much money as I estimate, dude could run it for a single year and have two houses and a car.

I believe ResetEra's income is two-fold: (a) is running ads, (b) is selling a premium role which is ad-free. It's very old school but if you have a XenForo that can run on any webhost in the world for maybe $40/mo with traditional AdSense monetization you're easily making tens of thousands of dollars a month.

It's definitely the most money they've ever seen in their life and they want to keep that gravy train going as far as they can.

Resetera demographic is low (4000 active members + 6000 guests in general), gaming forums aren't a niche, adblock is mainstream and you can bet those guests are using it, adsens or amazon ads don't bring as much money as before, the ads on Resetera are bottom-tier trash...

I also doubt the premium model is bought by many. In the best case it's 50/50 of Resetera active members. 2000x4$ a month, before tax.

I can't give a solid estimate, but 10 000 a month seems too big.

Even if you call it 2-4k/month it's still a nice sum for doing nothing except pay xenoforo/ZoHo mail/hosting and scream at the mods to make them do a better job. He probably still has his parental tugboat, his YA books, or some other sort of entrepeneurial game as mail cash supply.

Don't forget there might be some backroom deals around shilling going on. Jason Schreier and some of the usual suspects basically use Resetera for marketing/shilling. They're all obviously protected/bulletproof for whatever they post as well.

The Shower Elf (Tyler Malka) already confirmed Schreier came to him with a proposal for NeoGAF to shill his book. The Shower Elf obviously took things like that at the time, he only spilled it post NeoGAF burning when he was angry Jason Schreier wrote a Kotaku article about his rape antics.

Whatever Cerium is making he's pocketing a decent return for an owner who does fuck all and hardly ever speaks to his zoo.

On this site, just putting ads on thread lists and the main page (not in actual threads where 80% of traffic is because if adsense robots detect porn alongside ads you get flagged), when our userbase was about 1/10th the size it is now, we made about $200.

Multiply that by the fact they can use adsense in threads, multiply that by the significant userbase, and you're looking at several thousand dollars a month at the bare minimum just by ads. Now add in ad-free premiums.
