I reckon most translators are busy translating stuff for money so they can actually make a living. Also there is good chance translating stops being fun when it's your actual job and you have to grind through thousands of words.

Considering what screencaps afterwards showed (he lost some good friends in the scene, which also happened to Alec before the suicide and likely to other Era targets like Tim Soret), he's probably likely never going to touch the scene ever again. I've seen this play out in both the gaming scene and other scenes when someone is the target of campaigns like this. They realize that it's not worth it to be around a bunch of people who will fuck you over and make you lose your so-called friends over literally a single word in a translation.

It'll be interesting to see the next few days in the scene. ResetEra has been gaining a hostile reputation towards gamers and game developers thanks to things like this or the Ion Fury saga. On one hand gamers are going to be even more distrusting towards ResetEra, HG101, and similar so called gaming forums run by those who do not give a single shit about the scene and more about politics. On the other hand translators might be put off by this from now on, especially since there's a clear fear they might offend someone on an elitist gaming forum with the power to run a Twitter campaign, burn bridges, and ruin their hobbies.

Either way, the worst case scenario is a lot of popular SNES games end up untranslated still as quite a few other translation groups have shown they'd rather tweet about Trump and yell about how asking for updates gets you blocked instead of translating games.

I decided to see what Twitter thinks of the latest Era cancellation. Let's start off with HG101 saying that he hopes the translator "grows and learns". This is a common thread that can also be seen in the screencaps here. Era and allies didn't expect that the text translator would lose passion for his job over one word, they expected that he'd change the word into something politically correct. They really want these talented guys to translate the games for them (and analyze/modify 65816 assembly language and tile maps to insert said text in) but they also want these translators and programmers to do it their way.

In a sense it's a pyrrhic victory. He's never going to translate games again, but there's one less translator in a small scene. ResetEra ended up fucking things up for everybody. That's also the silver lining in all of this, ResetEra and a bunch of "retrogaming" groups are nuking their reputation over dogpiling someone for translating a Japanese game that wasn't quite politically correct to begin with.

Sakura Wars for saturn just got translated and we're getting quite a few weird legacy titles getting officially re-released on modern systems that didn't have a proper english translation before. if the small groups won't do it, you have NISA, X-Seed, and even Square Enix at this point going back and bringing over weird shit.

X-Seed is doing a PS4 port of Memories of Celceta and it sounds like a yet unknown version of Ys 5 may be brought over(it could be the original game or some type of remake). You also have not one but two version of Trials of Mana making their way over with the first that was released in the Switch mana collection and the full on 3D remake coming later this year. Bahamut Lagoon is supposedly up next with a few of the early final fantasy games but it could be an Asian only thing that you'll need to import from like the recent Dragon Quest trilogy that had a physical release for the switch. Asian Only releases tend to have no type of ESRB or CERO rating on the cover, but they'll have Chinese, Korean and English settings for language.

Not technically true. I imported the Hong Kong version of Super Robot Wars X and T, and they comes with a "For 16 and up" rating on them.

On the subject of Hardcore Gaming, somehow I'm not surprised they fell in with ResetERA. I used to read them, but a lot of dangerhair crap has been leaking into their writing of late.
