The funny thing is there has been lots of reeeing in the past about RE5 being racist because.... you shoot black zombies that exist because of the games setting.

You can't make that shit up. I'm sure in Africa we'd expect thousands of white zombies.

You're glossing over the part where a section of the black zombies were people transformed into half-naked warpaint-wearing spear-chuckers by the virus "regressing their DNA". Is this kind of racist? Yes, but
1. Resident Evil was learning hard into camp action-horror movie aesthetics at that point and the idea that a virus would turn people into devolved cannibalistic cavemen is right up that alley, and
2. Insensitivity towards the starving chilluns in Africa is the least of RE5's problems.

RE:5 was also set in Haiti, but all non-whites are African Americans for the purposes of Ree's argument.

I don't think the virus regressed their dna to make them like that. I'm pretty sure they were already like that and then got the virus that made them violent. I'd say its on par with 4 having some Spanish people living in a feudal peasant society under a noble aristocrat and church in terms of silliness. The picked what they thought would be a cool setting and enemies to fight.
