Game lore specifically says that the virus made them "cast off their clothes, put on warpaint, and pick up the weapons of their ancestors". But it's a bit of a moot port.

Damn its been a while so I forgot that. I just remembered the bits of about them attacking Umbrella back in the 1960 in the ruins and how the virus made them jump good. Would have been nice if they got a little bit more backstory about what happened to them like the villagers in RE 4 do in the credit illustrations.

RE5 got some flak, and I can't say it was entirely blameless. I saw the first game trailer, with a soldier mowing down dozens of Africans and was wondering what the fuck it was until the title showed and I realized then that they were zombies. Honestly wondered if it was a death squad simulator until then.

It also says the reason they had that stuff was for special occasions and shows for tourist, or something like that. It also says that it's unusual for them to do that.
But it's a moot point anyway, because the outrage over the game being racist happened before the games release, before people saw those enemies and the bonus tribal bikini outfit. Those points were retconned into the "RE5 is racist" argument because their original claims of racism based on the first trailer had fallen flat.

Short summary : the recent shocking events have made Resetera a bloodbath. (RIP George Floyd, truly disgusting murder by the way).
I won't link to those perma because I don't have the time, but there was a lot of permaban handed to longtime posters and Neogaf longtime members. Resetera's staff spared no one and I feel that the recent B-dubs "n-word" outing and Nepenthe being an admin played a huge role in that. B-dubs racist takes were spotlight at the perfect moment.
Usually, longtime members are kind of protected from permaban. They're active, they have friends in the community. They bring ad money, so the staff is more leniant with them. This time is different and it's important.
It's important because all those permabanned members won't give up. Resetera is their life, most of them have 5000+ posts. They spend their lives on that fucking website. Those permabanned members will come back with alt accounts, with huge frustration and a willing to shitpost since their longtime internet identity won't be linked to their posting anymore.
Imagine spending 2 years walking on thin eggs, being careful to not crossing arbitrary lines, only to be permabanned from the website you love so much you were willing to sacrifice a part of yourself to partake. Those wronged members will come back for sure, but this time, they'll want to destroy the community and won't care to be banned again and again.
More shitposts + way more alt accounts : resetera admin will grow even more paranoid. They'll make mistakes, they'll be tired and all of that will translate into even more crazy moderations and drama. The community will be even more frustrated.
Nepenthe being promoted to admin position and George Floyd's death (again, RIP brother) are the turning point for Resetera. It will takes time, but the damage is done.

It helps that ResetEra is entirely composed of the kind of people who beg to be mods just to have a small taste of power in their otherwise unremarkable lives. They're the last group of people I'd trust with any kind of authority.
