There's a pretty broad range of that, though. There are flamboyantly gay characters who are portrayed as promiscuous but this actually being a good thing, or at least neutral. Gay dudes actually are, at least statistically, pretty promiscuous, literally because they're dudes. Dudes scoring a lot is generally seen as success.
Which is, of course, why it's so rarely actual gay men who are complaining about these depictions. It's inevitably women who do the majority of this complaining.

It's not that he fucks around with kids. I don't think that's ever crossed his mind. It's that I live in an area so poisoned by social justice that nobody is really allowed to say anything to him about it, and he has the institutional power behind him. His excuse is, "it's too tall to fit in the garage," and as long as he leaves his Daisy Dukes on, he's just doing a form of dance that a lot of moms in this part of the country let their pre-teen daughters do. Socially, everyone's hands are tied. Even funnier, he's an illegal Mexican and his husband is a white Texan that makes Pete Buttigieg look like a slut.
Where I use to live. I used to have a gay couple as my neighbors. I remmber they used to talk about how they didn't like the "look how faggy I am!" Type Gays. I don't remmber exactly I belive it was just they felt those types were the reasons people thought gay people were divas, hence not helping the cause. They were nice guys honeslty.
When I was in college (the first time before being expelled for various crimes I won't go into) one of my friends was exactly this kind, but we'd just harass fratboys together. We lived on a block between the school itself and where all the frat houses were, and would just bully frat boys walking by with obscene entreaties. It was hilarious to watch their assholes clench up and sometimes, they would even literally start running away as we mocked them from the porch.
