FWIW, I think it’s a stupid reason, but I agree that devs should be allowed to change their games if they want to, within reason.I expected ResetEra to have a dumb take on Superhot cutting all the suicide scenes from the game, and it is, but nothing worth screen capping. Basically, they side with game designers doing what they want and applaud the decision, but it seems they don't give a shit.

It’s a very long slippery slope, but at some point if you start saying devs can‘t change games, it eventually gets to “no patches”. There’s of course the other end of the slope where changing the entire game to a new game is ok, but that one takes actual time and effort, so it’s less likely.

My generation as well as the following, are so accustomed to using swear words everywhere except for the most formal concept. The woke are using their extreme form of political correctness to fill in the void left by making all swearing acceptable. This is why they're fine with calling someone a "house nigger" while being hyper-sensitive otherwise. They're Puritan prudes, wanting to cover piano legs because they're legs, that's all.

I'm going to suggest it's more akin to something like removing features from a product you have already purchased. There's an argument to be made that future buyers of the game won't get that particular feature set, but it is kind of shifty to remove it in an update from a game that you already own.
Particularly, when the game already had an option in the settings to turn it off and
Surprise! Nobody used it. Who would've thought that customers buy things for a reason, and when they buy them they like to make use of the entire product they paid for.
At the very most, they could have made it "opt-in" to the questionable content, rather than the "opt-out" that nobody made use of. If there's any question that this is an improvement that the customers and community want, I saw the Steam reviews went from overwhelmingly positive, to negative immediately following the change. Obviously, people can just skip the update on Steam but if this is available on console they will have little choice but to update.
I may not give a fuck about this game, but there's definitely been many updates in the past that I wish I could skip, and this stuff has become normalized since the rise of digital media. There was much outcry and "slippery-sloping" over Sony and OtherOS, time has shown that it was justified.
