I don't have much use for NFTs, but it's become one of those absolutely toxic subjects, like lootboxes or the Epic Game Store used to be. They're frivolous and stupid, but the amount of rage NFTs induce is wildly disproportionate compared to how bad they actually are. It seems like they just want a scapegoat to direct all their impotent fury at.

wonder if deep down these people are fuming because even in resetera with the clear mod pull the majority of people don't really care about those inane things, which is pretty clear when you look at polls and comments that keep discussing the games and content without engaging with those loonies due to either lack of patience, fear of ban or just on ignore. don't know if trading cards would be the right way to put it, I suppose stuff like baseball cards not the tcg's are still trading cards so yeah i guess, but still not that close because you don't really get the "exclusive" item, IE: there is a physical difference between a fake sticker and a real one(build quality, in the case of old ones actual appropriate aging with said build quality etc) while the only difference between the nft and the non-nft thing is a digital "deed" that still needs a third party to recognize any legal ownership anyway(assuming they're selling any kind of rights with it, which is possibly the only thing that could give said "deed" value) , which begs the question why use nft's at all at that point.
A lot of the anger is just the misrepresentation of the thing making crypto in general look worse - similar to related subreddits -, nfts are something regular people look up how it works, manage to understand it but convince themselves they didn't undestand because it's such a dumb concept they can't believe its just that, and the unsurprising clear misunderstanding of crypto itself from a huge part of the nft community. The environmental seethe over nfts i will give it to you is far overblown and straight up dumb.

It's called having some fun with your kids and allowing them to feel a sense of wonder before growing up and having to do "the real world".

But I forgot Resetera is just about fucking kids, not being functioning parents.

it is the reason there's a shortage of video cards, so in addition to being a scam, it's a waste of good gpus.

Not really, most mining isn't for NFTs but normal fungible crypto. Also if you can get even a mid-range GPU it can pay for itself in a few months, effectively being free.

There was this short time in my life right after college where I thought like they do... I kind of resented the credit Santa got for all the good Christmas things my parents did, and wasn't going to do the same with my kid.

Now I have a kid and I landed on that exact point you made. My kid's gonna enjoy Santa and magic while she can, and that will outweigh any of the gratitude or credit I would have gotten for those years.

I'm not sure how true this is at this point, mining profits are way down and eth is about to move to completely unprofitable. I mine at ~120mh/s which was netting me around $20/day at the beginning of the year and is now roughly $8.
