One of the first things i learned since i started using forums twenty years ago is that you should always avoid engaging with a moderator. It's not just that every one of them should be assumed to be probing for a reason to ban, but it's also a matter of social hygiene. Mods are simply not your peers, you should never engage them in a way that could be considered equal nor should you consider them to engage with you in a way that would be misconstrued as "bona-fide".

I agree that COVID forced more people to become terminally online shut-ins. But the people who are social shut-ins and those who became shut-ins, weren't worth talking to outside anyway, generally speaking. It's easier to find decent people and avoid the nutters and IRL Ree posters.
