I have a muslim co worker, my understanding is that super strict muslims get tired of eating the same stuff from their country/neighboring countries so any restaurant that serves certified "halal" food can get a bunch of business from that community. There are halal authentic mexican, Vietnamese, Chinese, pizza, fried chicken.. almost any type of restaurant can be halal.

I don't mind it, in my mind if a place is willing to pay extra money for the halal meat then there is a better chance the food is decent.

Oh I know all that. I eat halal food myself. Just never heard of a restaurant that referred to itself as just “halal” instead of a Indian, Lebanese, Chinese, etc. restaurant with food that was made according to halal standards.
