The thread goes exactly how you think it would. Excelsiorlef of all people is upset that somebody who is offended by something can get that thing banned to protect their feelings. In this case, books at a school district.

There are plenty of choice quotes from people like Planetsmasher, who has no trouble hanging out in the "Sexist depictions of women" thread, seething that things he doesn't like are allowed to exist.

That's something I wonder CONSTANTLY. I don't know how there's a sane soul left on either of those sites. And my only theory is that they simply put up enough of a good front of actually being video game forums, and the people who join don't investigate enough--basically what you said up there.

Yeah, I figured they would have banned every single person who was at least somewhat sane YEARS ago. And the sane people who weren't banned simply would stop posting and visiting.

It's 2021, but in 2016-2018 I remember wondering why there were still new posts getting people banned. If you take a look at the far left subreddits, the only people getting banned are users invading from other subs, so it didn't make sense to me that a site like Resetera which was born out of Neofag in 2017 would have these users who seemed like regular long term users getting banned all of a sudden.

It's like visiting Chernobyl and seeing someone who lived there for decades suddenly succumbing to radiation poisoning, it defies logic that they didn't already die years ago or didn't leave years ago.

If someone is being a jerk and you try to kill him, him killing you in response is self-defense. The Zimmerman case was another where what people wanted to be true was the driving force of their view of what the case was about and how he should be judged.

No matter what your position on whether Zimmerman is a shitbag or not (I think subsequent evidence has provided this to be the case but you may disagree) not a single person involved in the case denied that he and Martin got in a fight and then Zimmerman shot Martin. The law in every state has always been clear on this. (It was never a Stand Your Ground case despite that getting 98% of the media attention.) Instead everyone rushed to argue and debate that who started the fight and why, an unknowable, mattered. And some went further, that this trumped the actual law because Martin was black.

Is Rittenhouse a racist? A white supremacist? A pedophile? Donald Trump's literal clone? Maybe. But it's actually irrelevant. Why Rittenhouse was there. Why his victims were there. It's all pretty irrelevant here. What matters is what they did and what happened and the evidence has always been on his side in the larger question of murder. Stuff like gun charges or whatever are not what people care about. They want Rittenhouse in prison for life because he ostensibly opposed BLM.

It actually depends. At least in Wisconsin, “A person who provokes an attack, whether by lawful or unlawful conduct, with intent to use such an attack as an excuse to cause death or great bodily harm to his or her assailant is not entitled to claim the privilege of self-defense.”

They just failed utterly at proving intent.
