NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

The intense hate for Kotick from the left is so puzzling. What exactly has he done to earn so much hate? As far as I know he’s just a typical super rich guy. I get that they have to hate anyone who’s rich (except Bill Gates because he cares about important things like depopulating Africa), but Kotick seems to get a lot more hate than the average rich CEO.

I have to assume it’s because he’s a ginger, one of the few minorities you’re still allowed to hate unconditionally.
@Buttigieg2020 spelled out most of the recent reasons, but I think a lot of it comes from rhetoric between Jason Schreier and Jim Sterling over the years. They were always keen to point out that Kotick's annual compensation before coof was usually 30 million (almost 90% of which isn't actual money) compared to the average Activision employee's high 5 - low 6 figure range, especially when layoffs would happen. Nevermind those layoffs being of mostly bureaucracy, esports, marketing and mobile game people (the same people that Sterling literally said should be out of work to reduce game budgets and because mobile game devs are parasites), and nevermind that contract expirations where mixed in with that number (happens a lot with QA in the industry) and nevermind the fact that Activision was actually increasing their developer workforce, in one instance by 20%. This was a sign of Kotick's unique late stage capitalist despotism. Doesn't help that Activision is generally disliked in "gaming circles" for legitimate reasons that are then delegitimized by the fact that the market keeps rewarding them.

The left is chronically illiterate on economic and post-headline-reading levels, and unable to process numerical data. You're dealing with people who think that Jeff Bezos could give the entire US population a million dollars. Schreier writes for Bloomberg and thinks it should be illegal to be a billionaire. No surprise they've made a villain out of Kotick.

Awesome, I can skip all the difficult parts and still get a trophy for it. Now if only life worked the same way. Space communism can't come soon enough. *sigh*

This guys rants against anything "white" make sense now, hes apparently schizophrenic and has a child. I hope he is the typical black negligent father and does not have custody.

To be honest, we should be actively encourage these degenerates to kill themselves before they harm anyone else. God forbid an innocent person is harmed because these mental cases can't seek help in the form of a therapist or a hollow point.

Going to ignore the lower hanging fruit of the guy with two communicating personalities and the one who wants to murder people for this troon. They literally can't even fathom the idea of a person who isn't "on the verge of mental collapse"? Not everybody has your life pal! How do you get yourself to the point where you're skeptical about the existence of other and different people?

These people need therapy and not ResetEra. All it will do is make them even more sad.

why do these people even fucking play video games
It's been a slow watering-down of difficulty across the board to be honest.

Recently I got Cuphead on the Switch, and was almost ready to insta-quit after getting my ass kicked by the bosses in level one. It was so different to most modern games that are impossible to fail at and that put you immediately right back where you were even if you act like a complete spaz and jump off a cliff, then put a big flashing "PRESS B TO JUMP" on the screen until you do it.

I had much of the same justifications as a lot of these guys too: Oh, my gaming time is at such a premium these days? Why should I spend it beating my head against a brick wall?

But I stuck with it, and you know what? Easily the best gaming experience for me for the past ~15 years. Actually having to learn the attack patterns, git gud at parrying and dashing, fail a hundred times before that one golden run where you make it to the end? That shit is rewarding, and it's why I even got into video games in the first place. And apparently at some point I completely forgot about that!

Most modern games are fucking garbage. They can't give you that feeling. The one where you beat the boss at the end, and you realise you've been holding your breath the whole time. All of these "accessibility options" (and I hate that they frame them as help for the disabled, blech) are bunk for lazy nerds that just diminish the experience. There's no victory without adversity.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer did an interview with one Kara Swisher, a j**rnalist that writes opinion columns for NYT and who is dubbed "feared" and "powerful" in Silicon Valley by various outlets. The podcast interview is framed as an understanding of the Metaverse thru Gaming, which just goes to show people's utter lack of understanding of tech ala blockchains and NFTs, and hilarious considering that Microsoft doesn't even have a VR solution. Other topics follow.

Swisher leads Spencer from question to question, making no effort to hide her political bent. She asks about trolling, online anonymity and Gamergate. Spencer spells out that Microsoft centralizes your accounts across their services (which is obvious), and have the ability to significantly impact the "gaming identity and availability" of those found to be "misbehaving" by who-knows-who's given standards. Given the scale of Microsoft as a transnational corporation, it's probably safe to excise the "gaming" word out of that sentence.

He says that they're continuing to work on this, and that millions of conversations and interactions will have to be monitored and moderated by automated solutions via things like the Cloud.

As if the left have not been infiltrating the entertainment sector and pushing propaganda since the 1920s, she names "evil" Steve Bannon in relation to Gamergate, where the singular and tangential, media-spun link is a cancelled speech in which he was going to talk about about "how he believes “economic nationalism” will allow for a higher number of minorities to get jobs in sectors like computer science and gaming", according to Wired (https://archive.md/47Qvp). She asks if vidya has a link to polarization, which leads to Spencer saying that Xbox is not a free speech platform, which then leads her to press Spencer about who is doing the "best job" of moderation between the vidya sector and social media firms like Twitter and Facebook. Spencer chuckles nervously and says everyone's got work to do, which Swisher bemoans as a lame answer and "lay-up".

Swisher then pushes Spencer on the Activision-Blizzard crap and doesn't get the promise of revoking Activision's viyda license without Bobby Kotick's resignation her ilk would want. She brings up GDC 2016, at which Xbox hired some dancers (no, not that type of dancer) and Spencer immediately cucks on that as a "painful moment", in which entirely autonomous women were paid for their choreographical services at a party.

Reee serves up a summary, and the usual:

He's also pushing for cross platform and services ban so if you ever once anywhere do something unapproved like say china is bad or complain about a tranny/elite pedo raping your kids, you'll be banned from almost everything, everywhere, forever, lose access to things you own and maybe even your ability to buy them

of course resetera will support this

Here's a thread where Resetera tells us who just might be worthy of our time:

"That crushing moment when a content creator reveals their shitty beliefs."

This thread is fun for a few reasons:
- It demonstrates their purity spiral perfectly. There are people they list that I would have thought were model Resetera fodder.
- It actually provides some very good examples of content creators who are not insufferable SJWs.
- It proves that their own exclusionary hate has made all forms of entertainment a minefield for them.

I've been enjoying Critical Drinker videos for years because he knows what makes a movie good, and knows what has been ruining Hollywood over the last several of years. Resetera doesn't like him because two of those things just happen to be Feminism and toxic left-wing politics.

It's fun and comforting to go through the thread and find several people I love but Resetera hates.
