What I like about this is that, for the first half, B-Dubs is actually being reasonable - for an SJW value of reasonable. The motte about toxic masculinity/the patriarchy is that it hurts men as well, through the expectations it places on them: the demands for them to be stoic, and providers, and all the other stereotypes associated with being 'a good man'. And of course what the users were doing in that thread, as they do in all sorts of threads, is engage in exactly the sort of toxic, negative behaviour that they vilify in others, but it's OK when they do it; you only need to look at their bitchfest threads about how terrible sexy fictional women are to see the incredible double standard they have between what can be said about women vs. what can be said about men.Plus a lecture:
So the scolding is actually on point. It's the rest of it where he falls down. By treating it like this is a one-off aberration rather than something that happens most of the time. By using toxic masculinity as the reason because in the world of ResetEra toxic femininity doesn't exist. In saying it's not bigotry when it clearly is, especially by SJW definitions. In saying that real bigotry is "life and death issues others face every day", rather than 99.99% of it in the experience of ResetEra forum users is words they don't like on a computer screen they never turn off, but could, and has nothing to do with life or death.
And, of course, by making a big deal of short men being dehumanised when men, especially white men, are constantly attacked in the exact same way, on the forum he moderates - dehumanisation that is not only tolerated, but encouraged, by the mod team - it makes it come across the same way all SJW complaints come across. Which is that he only thinks it's bad because he's sensitive about being in the group being mocked, meaning he's a manlet who thinks saying all men shouldn't have rights would be fine, but make it only all short men and suddenly that's bad.
Ah, well. It's not like he'll learn anything about dehumanising people for their immutable physical characteristics - it will remain only a bad thing if it's against targets he personally finds unacceptable. I'm sure that it also has nothing to do with the very short non-binary FtM troon Nepenthe, and indeed all FtM troons, being acceptable targets if you can say that about short men...
