A significant part the discussion in this thread is likely to revolve around CDPR's transphobia and transphobia in the game itself. It's racist and transphobic to make fun of Netflix for producing bad "woke" content for attention? Isn't that a position, especially about Netflix who platforms Dave Chappelle, that most of the forum holds? "Rainbow capitalism" anyone? I'm no fan of Musk regardless of which side of the political fence he shits on, but they're making a mistake thinking that constant online attention is as valuable to him as it is to the average REE user.

She still owns the rights, she just licenses them out through a deal with Warner Bros. The developers have already said she has nothing to do with the game except like the high level approval of concepts her agents oversee. Doesn't matter, Era might not care about abuse at Activision and Ubisoft or Disney donating to Republican politicians in Florida, but JK Rowling gets one penny of profits from something and they don't allow it to sully their forums or make it an unsafe space for trans women.

She retains an enormous amount of veto power though. Unlike most creators, when there was obviously a Potter franchise growing up, she made sure to set up a legal fortress to protect her IP. So good luck doing anything HP-related if she isn't signing on to it.

I half hope the DC writer throwing a shit fit about her (see the megathread in A&N) leads to tougher negotiations for Warner Bros down the line. Having her go "well one of your subsidiaries let their peons badmouth me" at the negotiating table would be amusing, not least because of the speed I suspect Warner would go "would you like the letter of apology signed or signed in blood?"

She's one of the few people that can start every day with "hey 10/15 years ago me. Great decision!"

I'm sure one day after she's passed they'll do the equivalent of The Watch with her work as they did to Terry Pratchett but it may be quite a while. And in the interim the seething is magnificent.
