I really wish there was a way to filter a threads posts by user because excelsiorlef is so fully bought into this fake situation that he keeps getting more and more unhinged as it keeps going. There's another GAF splinter forum and people are leaving anyone sharing DMs about that site (Icon-era) is getting banned, that's what Zeroing was banned for. Evilore is not making enough money to keep the lights on at GAF now with only sub 500 active members most times. His console warrior jihad is hurting him, not that he'd ever admit maybe he was wrong to perm console warriors instead of thread banning them or restricting their topic creation ability.

And yet, no matter how much they claim to be cracking down on platform warring, PC gamers are never banned for it, no matter how obnoxious they get, because Evilore has always given them a pass, since he is a PC gamer himself.

When port-begging was a bankable offence, Evilore overrode the mods by decreeing that PC gamers should be allowed to port-beg as much as they wanted, since there was no single advocate to tell publishers their games were wanted on PC, and it derails every single thread announcing a console game that doesn't mention PC.

I'm particularly fascinated by their reactions here. I mean, sure enough, this could be a creepy as all hell story where the father has been in love with the friend since she was a kid, as some in the thread suggested... or it might be just a mundane case of two consenting adults who happen to have a difference in age deciding that, hey, we love each other, so let's get married. Occam's Razor would suggest the latter, especially if we assume the letter is telling the truth. And yet, some of the inmates instantly jump to the worst possible conclusion and start calling the guy a pedo or a groomer (despite him claiming they hadn't seen each other in years).

Funnier still, they completely ignore the fact that, according to the letter, this "Madison" person is an adult woman who is fully capable of consenting, thank you very much. They seem too eager to voice their displeasure to just think for a goddamn second and recognize they are essentially denying this woman agency.

And this is all assuming the letter is true, of course. As you pointed out, this is most likely just a creative writing exercise, like many of the letters that are sent to this kind of column.

I actually went through something really similar years ago, a female member of my friend group ended up marrying one of my friends dads and everyone was really weird and angry about it for a bit but then everyone chilled out and his kids ended up not really caring much. It was very obviously a mistake and she had married him because of her own issues with her father but the old dude wasn't a creep or anything and was never a piece of shit to her. They ended up divorcing rather amicably a couple of years later and all parties just moved on.

I do think that the resetera reaction is kind of a pushback on "groomer" being applied fairly universally now on troons and drag show shit and so they are trying rabidly to reclaim the term in some way.

Fanboys can be annoying, but it's an internet forum, it's not a big deal or anything. Par for the course, really. Someone really liking console X or hating console Y, debate with them about it or ignore them like any other forum, but banning for it if they're not toxic is incredibly lame.

RetardEra doesn’t make containment boards for anything, which is why it’s so annoying there.

On traditional message boards it’s not a big deal because people rarely go into irrelevant topics to talk about how great it would be if some game was on their favorite console. But since the GAF-style boards all prefer to contain discussions of a single game in a single thread, that means one spammed topic like demanding a port can drown out everything else. Especially so when you have legions of insane fanboys who shill so hard for their platform of choice you’d think they were getting paid for it.

On the other hand, discussion on RetardEra is very sparse already. Most threads are just a bunch of GIFs and retarded hype reactions. Unless the game is problematic in some fashion, in which case you’re not allowed to talk about anything other than why it should be canceled. So would unbanning platform wars actually make it a worse forum? Perhaps not, but only because there’s not much room for it to dig any deeper.

The inmates already figured out a solution to port begging anyway. Now whenever a game is exclusive they just act like that’s some kind of discrimination/“late stage capitalism.” Instead of saying “why isn’t this Sony walking simulator on my Switch” like a normal gamer retard, they reframe it as “Sony is LITERALLY committing violence against me as a transgender Switch owner who can’t afford both Estradiol and a PS5!”

Instead of Evilore doing some introspection and trying to understand why people are leaving his forum he instead does yet another unsettling thing and lurks through people's DMs. Sounds about right.

This seems to be the fate of the remaining popular gaming forums that were popular in the past today. The original owner has a successful site (though that might have been a fluke due to the right timing and not because of talent, because in the 90's-2000's forums in general were popular and even the most obscure forums on weird topics had daily activity, many caught on and become popular by sheer chance), gets a big ego, starts becoming a tyrannical dickhead by going on banning sprees and instead of fixing their own shitty behavior doubles down and ruins what remaining good elements of their forum exist. The forum then becomes a clique environment where only a few insufferable members exist. Eventually it shuts down due to lack of activity and the owner is either in denial about why that happened or doesn't have the mental capacity to understand how it happened.

Some of these old, washed up forum admins who had their 15 minutes in the 90's-2000's are such delusional egotists that they think of themselves as celebrities.
