I'd say people here are pretty sick too sometimes, but it's an other type of sickness. Like I've seen cows here have moments of clarity and say something interesting or reasonable but perhaps partly out of fear of sticking out and partly because of the fun of piling on very few people will judge that moment of clarity with any sort of humility or insight. Heck, sometimes not even with the curiosity of a child who sees their pet do something out of the ordinary.
Oh, yeah, we have all sorts here, and a lot of those sorts aren't particularly great. Halals often show how a number of people here are thread-worthy themselves, often targeting people who reflect what they hate most in themselves to make themselves feel better, but we have schizos, actual fascists, etc.
But that's the thing, we have all sorts here. People aren't routinely pruned for wrongthink. Users will follow other users around, but that generally ends up with just lots of stickers and mods pointing out there's an ignore function, and that's not punishment enough for the people who do the same thing at ResetEra. We don't encourage diversity of thought - that's the sort of things universities claim, usually after they've just been caught out clamping down on it - but the Farms, via Null, allows it.
Which also allows something you see here that you don't see in all these progressive, inclusive forums, like ResetEra, RPGNet, Something Awful, MetaFilter, etc. etc. etc. - people here will get something wrong, apologise, and move on. Yes, there are spergfights where that doesn't happen, but none of those other forums have anywhere near the number of simply resolved miscommunications, or people accepting that they've got something wrong reasonably and moving on, that I've seen here. Somewhere like ResetEra, where the most highly-strung histrionics get to control the narrative, simply doesn't allow for basic human error or miscommunication - everyone is secretly Hitler and out to get you, or they're one of the few good ones and can be forgiven for anything and everything (until it's aimed at you, and then, wow, yes, they were Hitler too).
The Farms isn't some idyllic land of bants and fun, but it's also not an eggshells-over-landmines landscape where the most emotionally incontinent control the narrative. They have (mostly) unpaid moderators re-enacting late stage communism with constant calls for groups - aka certain minorities - to have more power, secret attempts to overthrow someone and replace them with someone else, hidden back-channels and favoritism and insane levels of scheming for a basic bitch forum; we have Null, who no one wants to replace, and basically if you don't annoy him too much, and if you do you don't annoy him too much about being banned, you're fine.
There's many things I think contribute to how somewhere like ResetEra is so fucked up vs. the Farms, but I think the key one is that we have no pretenses to being a Serious, Important place. Somewhere like ResetEra, ostensibly aimed at talking about video games, not only actively encourages its members to think they're Doing Good Work by how they post about video games, was literally founded by - well, by one person taking advantage of a self-righteous outrage mob to make a pump-and-dump forum filled with the biggest snowflakes of NeoGAF, but allegedly by a group of people wanting their vidya to be a more progressive, inclusive space.
That's a large part of what makes them so easy to laugh at. They think they're
important. They think what they do and say on their little gaming forum
matters. Not only matters - that it's the same thing as actually doing anything in the real world to try and advance the causes they claim to care for so deeply. ResetEra thinks they are fighting the good fight and making a material difference in the world when they
ban discussion of a specific computer game, because muh transphobia muh TERFs muh evil nazi chud fascists.
Wtl;dr: For a forum about games, Reetards don't know what fun is. They're anti-fun, and think fun is inherently evil. That's just hilarious.
