I know it's just a marketing event and everything, but the Game Awards is watched by many and announced on a lot of main gaming platforms (PSN, Steam, etc.). And with their Trending Gamer award they awarded it to Totalbiscuit back in 2014 (only a couple of months after that hate movement had blown off), who has time and time again proved how bigoted and intolerant he can be.

And now in 2016 they awarded it to someone whose audience is primarily Trump voters, who doesn't think fag is a slur, who preaches unity and working together after Trump, who thinks transgender characters should be written well in order to exist in games, who preaches "both sides", "why can't we love each other?" when confronted with Gaming's version of Trump supporters, misogynists, white supremacists, neonazis, etc.. Namely Boogie2988, who seems to mean well, but doesn't understand that there cannot be two sides between bigotry and tolerance, and that having bigots in your audience without taking a stand is a tacit/neutral approval of such politics. And it's quite ironic that Intel with their financial support of diversity initiatives in tech are associated with the award when it goes to someone who is implcitly okay with people who want to exclude or dominate other groups in video games and society in general.

I don't know who selects the nominees as I think the voting process for this category is mostly dependent on public voting, but I find it worrying that the people involved in the decision-making *and* nomination process, either ignore and thereby implicitly support, or actually agree with the winners. The award will help channel unknowing people who will be exposed to rhetoric espoused by Breitbart and Gamergaters.

I don't want to talk about Totalbiscuit or boogie, as they have proved they won't listen or change their ways, but I do care about a marketing award show who keep on signalboosting personas who can lead unfamiliar people into the propaganda arms of Trump voters, Breitbart, white supremacists, neonazis, etc. Geoff Keighley and whoever is in charge need to do something instead of being silent and closing their eyes on the damaging aspects of their nominees. And that's not speaking of the fact that 4 out of 5 of the Trending Gamers nominees were a blur of white dudes (when you have plenty of examples of other people doing amazing work that deserve recognition).

Should we be having kids in the age of climate change?
Personally I have to admit, my girlfriend wants to get hitched and have babies in the next year and I can't shake this thought. It's paralyzing to deal with the idea that by mid-century we'll be experiencing cataclysmic consequences from climate change.

Anyway, the personal stories in this article are great, I really recommend you guys read it. I am thinking of proposing the "one and done" approach to her, that a couple in this story agreed on, where any kid beyond the first one, which you have biologically, is adopted.

As a white male, I personally don't really care much for playing as white males, specifically because I feel a disconnect that takes me out of it. Sure I'm a white male, and so is the character, but when said character doesn't react to things the same way I would, it takes me out of it.

I just recently realized that when given a character creator, I always make a black male or a woman.

Edit: Also those 2 quotes in the OP are interesting. You could make the same arguments for white male characters even if you're a white male. I.E, I'm not 35 years old, bald, and in super-soldier grade physical condition, so the idea of playing as a mid 30's dude who's 250 lbs of pure muscle is off-putting and unrelatable.

I'd argue that physical fitness and age are more of a barrier to relatability than gender or skin color.

One of gaf's mainstays is the confessions threads where people anonymously submit written porn (both literal and political) for gaf to share with minors. A lot of the stories were incredibly outlandish to the point of being obvious fabrication, but that didn't stop the thread's runners from chimping out when two people admitted to sending in lies for years.

Here's a confession: I've submitted many, many fake confessions this year, from many, many fake email accounts and anonymous mailers. I'm trying to do more writing in general and saw this as an opportunity to flex my creative muscle in particular. Long ones, short ones, standalone and franchise, etc. Several have been posted ITT - at least one, but fewer than a thousand.

So I have a debt of sorts with Littlewoods (basically a catalogue service you can get credit on it, they sell games and consoles and kitchen appliances and electrical stuff, stupid shit. My credit limit is 1100, I owe them 1050 (stuff bought for family members anyway but whatever), the interest rate is 39.9%, which I've recently learnt is exceedingly high. I know you are just asking a question, so please don't take take this respond as an attack on you but I do feel this topic does deserve a response.

I have seen this idea thrown around on Twitter as a way to essentially ignore the plight of Cuban exiles (by painting the exiles as people who were rich/privileged under Batista). For starters I find it pretty distasteful for people to assume that even if it were true (that the exiles are all former upper class/rich Cubans), that the atrocities committed against them are essentially ok since they were the elite and wealthy. It brings out a foul aspect of far left economic/anti capitalist ideology that irks me. These families were torn apart, people thrown in prison or killed, and now we have multiple generations of people who have been separated from their homeland. Their previous social class doesn't mean they deserve that treatment. To attempt to ignore the Cuban exiles because they might have been wealthy in pre-Castro Cuba is disgusting in my opinion.

That of course ignores the countless Cubans who have risked their lives (thousands of which lost their lives on this journey) attempting to enter the US via rafts that continues even today. This migration goes far beyond just formerly wealthy Cubans, which makes the attempt to demonize the Cuban by the far left even more gross.

They deserved it, they were bad people. It's like instead of killing a king in feudal society in a transition to capitalism the revolutionaries exiled the king to another land where he would reproduce and tell his offspring how evil the revolutionaries were to him and how they stole all his land, and children have poor critical thinking skills so they believe what their parents tell them.

Curious if I am missing something here.

We've put out more than 40 dynamic themes. All of which generally get between 4-5 stars on PSN (usually averaged over 20-100 ratings). I strive to make stuff for people that is worthwhile, and we charge less than everyone else does, on average, for their work.

I noticed earlier in the year that there were NO Hanukkah themed dynamic themes (or static themes, for that matter) on PSN, for either PS3 or PS4.

We did a Christmas theme last year that performed pretty well, so it only seemed fitting we add this to our collection of offerings. Hanukkah, as I understand it, isn't necessarily a tremendously big or important holiday, but it's a very public one, and our Jewish friends in our small circle take the time to recognize it, so we went with it.

I took care to ensure the theme was accurate, as well as can be scripted using the tools available. All the candles of the menorah burn for every day of the year, but during the 8 days of Hanukkah they are lit one-by-one, in proper order. Consulted Chabad, and even sought out help from folks in the OT to make sure we were on the up and up.

I strove to maintain the high quality I usually aim for with all my themes; it's native 1080p, the candles have independent burn lengths and flickering behavior. I even worked in a couple of independent light sources.

more importantly, I uploaded a video demonstrating the theme in detail, which has been available on the store page since the theme went live this morning; I wanted to be sure folks knew EXACTLY what they were buying, to ensure that they were happy with the final product. I also made sure to keep the price low - $1.99, which is generally 25-50% less than other folks ask for halfhearted hackjob themes.

So, I was kind of shocked to pop onto the store to see - 2 single star reviews?

I'm trying to be sure I didn't miss something here.
