This smarmy faggot swooping in to tell the creator of the mod that he could get about a quarter of a percent of the lines he needed for a measly $400 at SAG rates was beyond infuriating. Wow, thanks only $160,000 for the estimated 200k lines not including studio time, sound engineering, and all the time to cut up all those lines! What a great plan for a free mod that can't make money! You really defeated machine learning with the one cool trick of having lots of money to hire people!

Their argument is that if we allow AI to be used on amateur products, that will "normalize" the practice and make it okay for large developers and publishers to also use AI voices.

Obviously large publishers will not give a fuck either way though, and this fan project won't make a bit of difference. Hard to tell if it's wildly naive on just insanely stupid to think that the game industry adoption of AI is going to hinge on whether or not free amateur-games use AI voices.

For large publishers and commercial games I find it hard to imagine that it is about cost savings. The costs for VA is surely just pocket change compared to everything else involved in creating a game.

The real reason they will change to 100% AI voices is convenience and time to market.
Tick the box for each language you want AI to generate dialogue for. You want the option to select some weird dialect of Swahili? Just tick the box.
You want everyone to have voices from TheAddamsFamily? Tick the box.
You want to support 3000 different languages/voices? Just tick the boxes.

Oh, no, due to current event you urgently need to reword some dialog to avoid some topics/words?
No problem, just change the root-dialog-text then click the button to regenerate all voice dialog in every language.

That is why companies will change to 100% AI for voice.
