I love the fact that the amir0x situation never proved to be a problem until Tyler killed the politics talk..
I'm unsure which tastes better: The hypocrisy or the salt? Hmmm.. I'll have a scoop of both please.
TWO SCOOPS?
2.19% gay, according to the math.
More of the LGBT thread continued, seems like it's gonna become a proxy battlefield:

Know what's so fucking funny? In modern, day to day life. It's nigh on normalised. Here in britbong land nobody gives two shits about LGBT relationships any more but
are getting sick of it being rammed down their throats in the stupid screaming cheerleading way the BBC and other media still insist on doing it. It pisses lots of folks off because day to day reality is fuck all like it.
I was watching Pointless (a highly popular gameshow) the other day where one of the contestants said that their husband would probably demand their winnings go into a savings account while they'd want to go on a nice holiday somewhere.
It took me 30 seconds before it twigged the contestant was a dude. They'd simply casually used it in conversation while taking a joking pop at a loved one. This is the reality of modern britain and LGBT relationships. Nobody gives a fuck provided you're not running around trying to jam it down people's throats.
So wait, everyone who was just banned or are going to be banned from Neogaf are now from 4chan?
Only intolerant people come from 4chins. There's no way there'd be actual gamers on NeoGaf who actually give a shit about gaming and hated the overt politics of the cesspool.
Having a community entirely about gaming with a no politics rule would be impossible to enforce. It'd be like having a no politics rule in music or something. Half of rap songs are, and everything Macklemore makes is, about social inequalities. Having a no politics rule essentially amounts to a "everything in rap music is true" rule, and songs like "Kill all the Gays and the Faggots" would be hatespeech violating the no politics rule.
Movies are the same.
Get Out is now considered the 4th best movie of all time and rides 2 positions behind fucking
Citizen Kane. Was it a good movie? Sure. But why is it the 4th best movie of all time with an audience approval score 10 points below the critical score? Because critics eat up that racist slop like it's fucking ambrosia. Can't say that with a no politics rule.
Gimping discussion with arbitrary rules like that never works. If the full range of discussion isn't on the table then really nothing is.
There's a pretty big gulf between the glancing commentary that most games aim for and discussing it versus the bullshit GAF pulled though. Movies that go too heavy on the political message get lost in the white noise as nobody can wrap their heads around it.
This is what Gaffers tried to do, they injected politics deep and hard into games and gaming culture and discussed stupid shit like "WHERE DAH POC PROTAGONISTS AT?" rather than realising that the majority of gaming output comes from nations with either a ridiculous homogeny (Japan) or are aimed at states which have money (white majority). Meaning most of the devs aren't fucking stupid enough to only make games which appeal to a tiny sliver of their potential audience.
Instead gaffers ram politics in and blame it all on racism instead of simple market movements and launched highly damaging crusades which Tyler did nothing about until they turned their guns on him.
I think he's trying to get rid of the soc jus crowd, and in a very hamfisted way too..
It's impossible to completely avoid politics in games.. Some games like MGS are almost all political & social arguments..
Yeah, and 99.9% of the people playing it don't fucking care. The remaining 0.01% wait for Kojima to tell them what he was protesting this time around. Most of his commentary and politics are buried so fucking deep you need to have a chat with Satan himself to get access.
The biggest take away most people would know from MGS is "nukes = bad" which we pretty much fucking know already.
I can't actually think of
any game that does a political message well. Most when trying for such messages either take the piss (Tropico leaps to mind) or are so hamfistedly buried you miss them when you just want to play vidya. (Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag and you working for Ubisoft as an evil corporation leaps to mind).
