NeoGAF & ResetERA - The Hilarious N̶e̶v̶e̶r̶e̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ Splintering "Gaming" Forum Circus

Actual game and platform centric discussion at Era is endlessly dissatisfying to watch play out. Far as I can tell, a lot of Era users don't post to engage in fruitful or entertaining discussion, but to push their own specific narratives about gaming, and to have them validated by others. One such narrative I've noticed come up more and more lately is this idea that Era itself is a hive of Nintendo apologists and fanboys. That's a bit mystifying to me, considering that from the outside looking in, Era appears to be as much of a PS fan circlejerk as NeoGAF was. There's a gaming thread going on right now titled "PS doesn't have BC because Sony wants to sell you the same games again" and predictably, half the thread is like "I actually love buying games multiple times, and I should thank Big Dick Papa Sony for the opportunity!" Playstation is flawless, you see, and the evidence is clear: it's winning the console war. If it had flaws, then it wouldn't be. You follow me? No? Well, that's the logic. Stumble into any PS-centric thread on Era and you'll witness how pervasive that strange sort of logic is, firsthand.

I'd like Playstation to be backwards compatible, because the platform emphasizes digital purchases in a way that past platforms didn't, and I want my purchase history to carry forward. ---> "BC is obviously not necessary for a successful platform, and that's why Sony doesn't invest in it. I mean, look for yourself. PS4 is #1. Therefore, who needs BC? Just wait and see, Sony might re-release the games you already own with marginal upgrades at a premium."

I think that cross platform play would be neat and it'd enable me to play with all my friends. ---> "If they were your real friends, they would have coordinated their console purchase with you. Cross platform play is a neat idea, but if you look at how well the PS4 is selling, it's not really necessary or something I want Sony to have to worry about."

The Sony apologism is just so blithe, as the natural result of that sort of logic and behavior having been status quo at their old forum for so long. If you believe these observations to be exaggerations or otherwise :autism: , peruse any such thread on Era and you'll see it for yourself. It will be interesting to watch Era's reaction to Sony rolling out features like cross platform play and backwards compatibility over time. Overnight, these things and others will become vital features, bars which any competing platform will have failed for not reaching, once they're standard on Playstation.

But... why is there so much Sony fanboying? I'm one of those PC heretics myself because backwards compatibility (as well as future proofing and 4K screens) are a given. Why would anyone want to pay again for a "definitive" or "remastered" edition that they already have on their old system. What did Sony do to deserve REEEEEEsetera - or even vice versa?

They've actually banned people though for saying things like "the XB1 has fewer good exclusives than PS4 so Sony has won on that front so far" as console warring. So maybe the userbase is skewed to playstation but someone on the mod team aint a fan.

Remasters tend to run better (Dark Souls and SotC had framerate issues) and look like how you remember them rather than how they were. And the PS3 interface is shit and really hard to go back to. Trying to look at your trophies can take 2 minutes to load and crash your game.

GAF has always been full of Sony fanboys, even in the original PlayStation days. My guess is that during the formative years of GAF, PlayStation and PlayStation 2 were the most popular consoles out there so a lot of the moderators and administrators were pro-Sony as a result. Console gaming was as such that if you didn't own a PlayStation or PlayStation 2, there was a lot you were missing out on.

My theory is that not a lot of people there had a job. Seriously, some of the post counts were insane and if you left any thread for like 5 minutes you'd come back and 10 news pages would be up. So no chance in hell those people had anything else to do, as such they probably didn't have the luxury of multiple consoles. Sony is the most popular choice for over 20 years so I guess most of them had a Playstation which they had to defend with their lives because god knows if a good game comes out on a Nintendo platform you have no access to...

That's not all of them of course, any fanboy is an idiot and the world is filled with idiots, employed or not. I just think that's the reason you'd have more ardent Sony supporters. Unless I'm missing some autism connection which is possible.

is there a single website that has a userbase with strong opinions about videogame consoles and isn't a dumpster fire for one reason or another

there seems to be a correlation

Eurogamer is openly pro PC gaming and is pretty decent as gaming websites go.

I'm just posting stuff from before I stopped reading the site.

TLDR purports to be fence-sitters, but the worst kind of bandwagoning assholes. Reddit-type comment voting system. Post like 10 reviews a month, 50% if which seem to be SF indie clique walking sims/pixelshit.

Easily bought, did near hourly destiny 2 articles for months while everyone made fun of then for it.
Clickbait incarnate, also big at propping up reeEra.

Sorry for the autistic rage, but they were definitely good once but that changed drastically for the worst, think forbes and the like.

Considering how many devs were actually openly celebrating the demise of gaf, I'd say it's not that it's too embarrassing to associate with and more like why would you want to lie down with starving rabid dogs? Fleas are the least of your worries.

During all the screeching over Subnautica, another goldmine of futile rage was unfortunately overlooked, and that is Kingdom Come, which is a game coming out that is made by a vERAfied Nazi™, white supremacist, etc. etc. fill in the blanks yourself.

A dedicated thread for it was finally made as the moderators graciously deigned to allow discussion of the game. Of course that requires a four-paragraph mod warning header. Here's one paragraph:

They're not kidding. Already someone got banned for questioning whether he is actually racist. Disagreement is not allowed:

Compare to how they've been moderating boycotters:

Swear at another user while agreeing with mods? Warning. Politely question whether the mods are right that he is racist? Extended ban.

Unfortunately, I doubt there will be more excitement in that thread because most of the exceptional people are boycotting the game so they can't actually talk about it.

The boycott is looking to become yet another Resetera success story – Kingdom Come is now the top-selling game on Steam and it hasn't even released yet.

yeah, boycott a game that you wouldn't have bought in the first place and you don't even buy video games anyway

The rules were posted a couple pages back, I think you get banned for wrongthink either way. Rightthink always trumps shekels in REEEEsetEra.

EDIT: Here ya go, the full set of rules:

so essentially they've gentrified their userbase

This user was banned (LENGTH PENDING) for misogynistic thought process and hateful rhetoric. Go stand in the corner and think about what you've done.

Man, I forgot to mention this, but I remember when that thread happened. Its original title? "Can we talk about the rape in Bayonetta...?". Tell me that shit doesn't send your eyes into planetary orbit. I thought back then, "man, if only Bayonetta were published by Ubisoft. I'd get to see Crossing Eden melt down like a robot faced with a paradox."

I can't help but to roll my eyes every time I see a thread titled " let's / can we / we need to talk about _________", that shit is so corny. Painfully common on Era.
if we showed these guys the life of black tiger trailer, do you think the website would just fucking explode and there'd be no survivors?

It wont be long now before developers start advertising boycotts as a selling point. "Too hot for exceptional individuals".
The only way to stop it will be for REEE to curl up and die in the hopes it'll be forgotten.

They apparently aren't old enough to remember how right-wing Christians repeatedly gave free advertising to and made the products they boycotted more popular. Even longer ago, "Banned in Boston" used to be something you'd put on your front cover.

Didn't Saints Row 4 do that? Put "banned in australia" all over their marketing?
