See, this is what I've never understood regarding the whole Anti-GG shebang.

Facts have literally never been on the side of GG opponents. That's actually one of three reasons I first started covering the shitstorm (the other two being because I'm old enough to remember numerous previous cases of assholes trying this same cultural hegemony horse-shit, and because Fucking someone on our site had to).

From day one, even asking for proof of an accusation from a GG opponent was tantamount to giving support to terrorists in the eyes of Anti-GGers. Yet even the most deranged forms of sunk cost fallacy don't explain the sheer level of open willful blindness on the part of GG opponents like the ResetERA crowd. Over and over again, multiple GG opponents got themselves exposed in scandal after scandal, engaged in fuck-up after fuck-up, and most damningly of all, repeatedly got caught doing basically everything Anti-GG accused GG of - and more.

You would think that with Anti-GG's biggest and best engaging in the fucking same behaviors that there would be some sort of consequences for that, but if anything, the reverse was true. Even when caught in lies, they kept doubling, tripling, and quadrupling down, even when it made no fucking sense.

Quinn got caught over and over again, whether from her exposure in the CON Log Leaks, the fact that she vacated her own order of protection rather than face perjury charges, her claims that Nintendo was harassing her via a fucking Paper Mario game - the list goes on for pages. And yet no matter how many times she got caught lying or how many times her own behavior punched a hole in the narrative big enough that you could drive a truck through it, there was never a single solitary scrap of blastback from her own side. Hell, when Quinn vacated her own fucking OOP, Gamerghazi posted this copypasta-worthy brain-turd:

...That fucking level of nuttery is the goddamn mean on ResetERA, and that's what makes analyzing the Anti-GG side of this so fucking fascinating - there's no real body of evidence they draw from to make the claims they do beyond parroting narrative talking points. Any evidence they do provide will be one of numerous fucking articles done by someone involved in the clique establishing that GG is triple Satan, and if you point out the circular logic, you'll be baned, if you weren't already by virtue of not blindly devouring every scrap you're thrown.

You'd think they'd tone down the shit after GG ended, too, but if anything, it's gotten demonstrably worse. "Trump did 11/9" has become one of the most fucking parroted talking-points within their circles, followed only by the belief that GG is responsible for their other losses, along the same lines, in other areas.

Despite this, they had and still have the uniform and unwavering support of fake news, who repeat years-disproven lies over and over again given the slightest opportunity. It is even now rare that a single day goes by without some media dipshit comparing some totally unrelated thing to Gamergate as a synonym for Nazism.

I do like this as a way of identifying morons who should be permanently ignored, but it's tiresome.

It's because of the Social Justice tenets we're seeing everyday:

1) Cultural Marxism's biggest issue is its contortion of language and culture, the words "problematic", "toxic", "Social Justice"..etc have been contorted and twisted into new meanings, this is why when you argue with an SJW, you can never agree on anything, that's not because they're being assholes, but because you are essentially speaking two different languages that look and sound the same.

2) Marxism in all its forms always turns into widespread oppression, because it depends on everyone agreeing on everything, this of course is an impossibility, so the only solution to actually make it semi-workable is to hammer down every nail that sticks out and quash every opposition. Now try to apply this to Cultural Marxists: You get ResetEra-style dogpiling and obsessive moderation, you get witch hunts against everyone who participates in wrongthink, you get supposedly competing journalists secretly colluding together to form a massive propaganda machine and disallow the wrong people from defending themselves, all for the greater good.

How the fuck he didn't get banned for that I've no idea. Mods must have been asleep or something.

Regarding games journos, they've been supplanted by Youtubers as reviewers. No one's going to go to their websites and read a review they may worry has been paid for when they can watch their favourite Lets Player actually play the game so they can see for themselves what the game is like. They rely on baiting because it's the only thing they have left to attract attention. It's also why they cling to Gamergate so fiercely - it was the one time mainstream cameras were pointed at them, and they were being deified as fighters against sexism in gaming. It's in their interests to pretend it's still alive in the faint hope they'll get that attention again.

I wouldn't paint LPers as completely unbiased. Many popular LPers are managed by networks owned by major media corporations, which also own the same outlets that decried GG.

Arguably, the most prominent change in NeoGAF has been the mod team and their approach. They are far more conducive to civil and balanced discussions. So far most of the banned members I've seen are actually SJWs.

There are caveats, but GAF is going in a positive direction since the crazies left.

Honestly look at the similarities between the Anti GG responses and Le Drumpf. All the things @Jaimas have referenced in terms of tactics, causes, reporting, and such. The doubling down of literally impossible not checked narratives, the smug borderline aristocratic nature and class of the truth tellers, the constant gas lighting and hysteria, etc. etc. etc.

These people see it because they know it mirrors the situation they are in. Is there really that much of a difference between random faked shitposting on twitter equating literal rape, and those articles when people claimed Trump raped a woman on a plane in front of her son; only to turn out he was never even on the plane with the most basic of fact checking?

This guy was making troll threads on GAF for as long as I can remember. Even before the fall of GAF, if Shuri had posted this exact thread last year in response to a different shooting... it's not like the thread would have been closed, but I could imagine how quickly a mod would have changed the name of the thread to "schools in video games - another Shuri controversy". Such was his reputation on oldGAF, far as I can tell. On ResetERA? The thread will might be closed soon, and Shuri might even catch a warning (specifically because Shuri has not returned to the thread to address a single counterpoint to his obviously controversial argument). Currently, however, the thread still stands, open in a state that other threads would be closed over, as a testament to how even baseless concerns are sometimes seen as merited topics of discussion on ResetEra, as long as those concerns are framed as though they're genuinely from the heart. At that point, I guess it becomes difficult for moderation to discern concern trolling from the genuine feels of RE users, because they so often read the exact same.

I'll say this much - there's a few posters in that thread calling out Shuri on his continued bullshit. One or two have even suggested that Shuri should catch a ban because he's crazy, and they haven't been warned yet. So maybe this thread will have an entertaining ending, as opposed to the quiet lock that I'm expecting. I'd love to see Shuri get a custom tag that advises other users not to waste time and energy in his threads, but somehow Era's mod team has managed to avoid doing that much to their users, presumably based on some strange pretense that they shall rise above the tactics and behavior of oldGAF's moderation team, who eventually weaponized custom tags to clearly delineate non-groupthinkers from the rest of the herd. I wonder how long that will last.

As an aside - I've been playing Subnautica and it's the best, most unique, most entertaining, and most polished survival game that I have ever played. It fucking stuns and aggravates me that discussion about Subnautica on ResetEra was centered entirely around the sound designer's history and that, once they got him fired, there's been nary a word spoken on that entire site about Subnautica since. 2018's first genuine GOTY contender, and collectively, ResetEra barely gives a single fuck. If only it were an otherwise average game produced by one of their favorite Japanese developers. They'd be talking about how it's as visually interesting as a Pixar movie, or some such shit.
