I distinctly remember that Brianna Wu controversy where ""she"" wanted Samus to become recognized as a transgender woman (I believe this was around the time GamerGate was in swing). The whole Samus is trans thing dates back to around 1994 when Super Metriod was released and in one of the developer interviews they joke about Samus being a "Tranny" (They use the Japanese word for tranny, not trans mind you) it was obviously meant to be a joke.

People like Wu have tried to spin it as calling her trans when in fact it was them calling her a tranny.
